About IBU Cup Ridnaun

Deep in Val Ridanna, in the municipality of Racines (Autonomous Province of Bolzano/South Tyrol), the Masseria Biathlon Centre has hosted a stage of the IBU Cup—the second-tier global biathlon circuit—for decades. On the snow at 1,380 metres, athletes from across Europe compete in individual, sprint, and pursuit races before an enthusiastic crowd in a valley that stands as one of Italy's biathlon temples, having previously hosted European and Junior World Championships.

The IBU Cup returns to Val Ridanna

The IBU Cup Biathlon Ridnaun is the IBU Cup stage—the international biathlon circuit just below the World Cup—held in the picturesque Val Ridanna, in the Municipality of Racines/Ratschings, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (South Tyrol). The races take place at the Masseria Biathlon Centre (Maiern), a facility located at the end of the valley at an altitude of approximately 1,380 metres, managed by ASV Ridnaun.

An elite facility in the South Tyrolean mountains

The Masseria centre is a cornerstone of Italian biathlon: it features a fully automatic shooting range with 30 lanes and a network of cross-country ski loops that allow for courses of any distance. Thanks to these features, Val Ridanna has hosted IBU circuit races and international youth competitions almost continuously since the 1990s.

A long international tradition

The valley boasts a significant sporting history: it has hosted the European Biathlon Championships (1996, 2011, and 2018) and, in 1993, a World Cup stage. The Masseria Centre also hosted the Junior World Championships in 2002 and will host the junior world title event again in 2028, confirming South Tyrol's role as a land of biathlon alongside Anterselva and Martello.

The races

The event programme typically includes six races over a few days: individual, sprint, and pursuit, in both men's and women's categories. Athletes alternate cross-country skiing with shooting sessions—prone and standing—in a discipline that combines endurance, precision, and nerves of steel. Admission to the races is traditionally free for the public.

The setting: Val Ridanna

Val Ridanna is a side valley of the Upper Isarco Valley (Wipptal), in the municipality of Racines. Beyond winter sports, it is known for its long mining history, preserved at the Ridanna Mining Museum in Masseria, and for an unspoiled alpine landscape that becomes the natural stage for biathlon races in winter.

Note: The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced. The IBU calendar anticipates the return of the stage to Val Ridanna in early March 2027, as part of the 2026/2027 season.

IBU Cup Ridnaun — edition 2026

The dates for the 2026 edition of the IBU Cup stage in Val Ridanna have not yet been officially announced. The Masseria Biathlon Centre, in the Municipality of Racines (South Tyrol), remains on the international circuit schedule: the IBU calendar anticipates a stage in Val Ridanna in early March 2027, as part of the 2026/2027 season. Information regarding any races during 2026 will be published by the organisers on official channels.

At present, no official dates are available for an IBU Cup biathlon stage in Val Ridanna during 2026. The Masseria Biathlon Centre, in Racines (Province of Bolzano), remains one of the international circuit's reference facilities. The 2026/2027 IBU calendar places the return of the Ridnaun stage in early March 2027. Updates on the programme will be communicated by ASV Ridnaun and the organisers.
