The patronal feast of Dro on December 8th, blending solemn rites with village cheer

The Immaculate Conception Patronal Feast is the most cherished event of the year for the community of Dro, a town in the Alto Garda area of the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), overlooking the Sarca Valley. Every December 8th, the day of the Immaculate Conception, the village celebrates its patron saint with two days that combine liturgical tradition with popular festivities, drawing families, children, and visitors to the parish church.
The heart of the celebrations is the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the parish church of Dro dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. The single-nave building, expanded with side chapels, was completed in 1876 and blessed in early 1877; the solemn consecration by the Bishop of Trento, Eugenio Carlo Valussi, took place in 1896, and the church attained parish status in 1914, separating from the pieve of Arco. The interior features fresco decorations in the presbytery, added at the beginning of the 20th century. It is here that the Solemn Mass in honor of the patron saint is celebrated on the morning of December 8th.
The feast is not just a moment for prayer. After the morning religious services, the afternoon comes alive with entertainment for children and bouncy castles at the oratory, followed by the grand tombola for everyone and the draw of the rich lottery, an unmissable tradition of Trentino patronal feasts. In the evening, the parish theater hosts a concert, serving as a gathering point for the entire community.
Included in the calendar of patronal feasts of the Trentino Alto Garda, the Dro celebration is a wonderful way to experience the authentic atmosphere of Trentino during the Advent season, far from the large summer tourist crowds. Those visiting the Sarca Valley on December 8th will find a village in celebration, amidst faith, tradition, and conviviality.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of the Immaculate Conception Patronal Feast in Dro have not yet been published by the parish. The feast is traditionally linked to December 8th, the day of the Immaculate Conception, featuring a Solemn Mass in the parish church and, in the afternoon and evening, festivities at the oratory and parish theater. The full program will be announced by the parish of Dro closer to the event.
