Every winter, the municipality of Nomi, a small village in the Vallagarina valley in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), turns into a true land of monumental nativity scenes. From late November until Epiphany, the lanes, squares, and parks of the historic center host numerous Nativity representations, created in various expressive forms and illuminated during the evening hours. The event, organized by the Pro Loco of Nomi with the support of the Rovereto and Vallagarina Tourist Board, is one of the most characteristic Christmas appointments in the valley.
The heart of the event is the historic Granaio in the center of the village, which houses large charity nativity scenes created with care and creativity by local volunteers and associations. Around the Granaio, a widespread itinerary through streets and courtyards allows visitors to discover Nativity scenes of all sizes, from large monumental works to more intimate installations, in a walking path that guides the visitor throughout the entire village.
In addition to the exhibitions, the calendar offers events that animate the Christmas season and involve both adults and children:
Throughout the period, in Piazza Springa (the festival square), the Pro Loco of Nomi manages the Christmas House, a meeting point where one can enjoy hot drinks, mulled wine, and typical seasonal sweets, contributing to the convivial atmosphere of the event.
The Christmas of the Monumental Nativity Scenes is a free-entry event that has its roots in the ancient traditions of the Vallagarina and renews itself every year. It represents an opportunity to discover an authentic village in Trentino during the most evocative time of the year, amidst faith, nativity craftsmanship, and alpine folklore, as part of the broader calendar of the Vallagarina Christmas events.
Nomi is located in the Vallagarina valley, a few kilometers from Rovereto. By car: A22 Brenner motorway exit at Rovereto Nord or Rovereto Sud, then follow the provincial road. By train: Rovereto station on the Brenner line, then connections to the valley.
Admission is free. The Granaio is generally open to visitors from Monday to Saturday in the afternoon and also on Sunday mornings; visits by appointment are possible. The Christmas House in Piazza Springa is open on weekends and public holidays.
