About Il Radunaccio

Il Radunaccio is an oral tradition folk choir festival that brings the village of Vicopisano, in the province of Pisa, to life every June. Two days of workshops, roving concerts, and performances unite choirs from across Italy and Spain, organized by Canto rovesciato APS and Circolo ARCI L'Ortaccio with the participation of Or'Coro. Featuring open workshops, the famous Cor/teo through the historic streets, and evening Balfolk dancing, Il Radunaccio is a grassroots festival where the voice becomes a tool for community.

Il Radunaccio, the folk choir festival in Vicopisano

Il Radunaccio is an oral tradition folk choir festival that transforms the medieval village of Vicopisano, in the province of Pisa, into a vast laboratory of voices every June. Originally a simple gathering of choirs, it has grown into a full-fledged festival organized by the Canto rovesciato APS association and the Circolo ARCI L'Ortaccio, with the participation of the local choir Or'Coro and the patronage of the Municipality of Vicopisano.

A grassroots community festival

The heart of Il Radunaccio is participation: here, the audience is not just a spectator but is invited to sing, dance, and get involved. For two days, the historic center of Vicopisano fills with choirs singing repertoires from the Italian and European oral traditions, including work songs, protest songs, Iberian and Sephardic polyphonies, body music, and ethnic dances. It is an event that makes building community through the voice its founding value.

The program: workshops, Cor/teo, and dance

The festival kicks off on Friday evening with a live show and continues on Saturday with an intense schedule:

  • Singing workshops in the morning, led in parallel by various artists and groups, open to anyone wishing to experience collective singing.
  • Cor/teo, the signature event: a roving concert through the streets of the historic center, with multiple stages where choirs alternate before a moving audience, accompanied by the guest band I Fiati Sprecati from Florence.
  • Social dinner at L'Ortaccio and, to close, live Balfolk, with European folk dances open to everyone.

Choirs from all over Italy and Spain

Each edition gathers various guest choirs from different Italian regions and abroad, particularly from Catalonia. Alongside Vicopisano's Or'Coro, groups from Milan, Bologna, Piacenza, Parma, Genoa, Turin, and other cities have participated over the years, showcasing a vibrant and ever-expanding folk singing network.

Vicopisano, a village between history and tradition

The setting is Vicopisano, one of the most charming villages in Tuscany, famous for its Brunelleschi fortress and medieval towers. The streets and squares of the historic center become the natural stage for the Cor/teo, giving Il Radunaccio a unique atmosphere where music, heritage, and social life blend together.

It begins Friday evening with the body music show by Collettivo Rosario and continues Saturday with singing workshops, the roving Cor/teo in the historic center, and the evening Balfolk.
