The Gargano stage of the literary festival in Piazza della Marina Piccola
Il Libro Possibile is the literary festival that lights up Puglia every summer with hundreds of meetings. For several editions, it has been held in two stages: the first in Polignano a Mare, the historic home of the event, and the second in Vieste, on the Gargano promontory, in the province of Foggia. The Vieste stage serves as the grand finale of the festival, when the stage moves to the Adriatic coast for five evenings of culture, debate, and music under the stars.
The heart of the event is Piazza della Marina Piccola, a picturesque setting overlooking the small port of Vieste, where book presentations, lectio magistralis, readings, and concerts take place every evening. The meetings are broadcast live on television thanks to a long-standing partnership with Sky TG24, the festival's media partner, which carries the voice of Il Libro Possibile far beyond the borders of the Gargano. The format remains the one that made the event famous: an "open-air lounge" where the public can choose from dozens of appointments, ranging from fiction to current affairs, and from science to civil engagement.
Just like in Polignano, all events in Vieste are free and open to the public: this is the choice that has made Il Libro Possibile a truly popular event, capable of filling the squares every evening with thousands of people of all ages. The event is organized by the Artes Cultural Association and directed by Rosella Santoro, who selects a central theme each year around which all the meetings revolve.
The Gargano stage links the festival to one of the iconic locations of Apulian tourism: Vieste, with its perched historic center, white beaches, and the famous Pizzomunno sea stack, welcomes a large audience of residents and vacationers in the height of summer. The festival thus becomes an opportunity to combine the seaside life of the Adriatic coast with the pleasure of reading and discussion, bringing great names of national and international culture to one of the most beloved locations in the municipality of Vieste and all of Puglia.
In 2026, Il Libro Possibile celebrates its 25th anniversary and chooses as its theme "Speech to Humanity," inspired by the famous final monologue from Charlie Chaplin's film The Great Dictator: a common thread that runs through all the meetings, with particular attention to freedom, dignity, and dialogue in a present marked by wars, democratic crises, and technological transformations. After the first stage in Polignano a Mare (July 8-11), the festival concludes in Vieste from July 21 to 25, 2026, in Piazza della Marina Piccola, with five evenings of free admission broadcast live by Sky TG24.
The twenty-fifth-anniversary edition brings over three hundred national and international guests to the stage, who take turns to discuss fiction, current affairs, science, economy, environment, entertainment, civil engagement, and rights. The Vieste audience can thus attend meetings with great names of Italian and foreign culture, in a program that weaves together book presentations, lectio magistralis, debates, and concerts.
Vieste stage: from Tuesday, July 21 to Saturday, July 25, 2026, every evening in Piazza della Marina Piccola. Free admission. The meetings in the main square are broadcast live by Sky TG24.
"Speech to Humanity" โ from the final monologue of The Great Dictator by Charlie Chaplin.
Among the over 300 guests of the 25th edition are Roberto Saviano, Maurizio de Giovanni, Gianrico Carofiglio, Stefania Auci, Erri De Luca, Nicola Gratteri, Pietro Grasso, Marta Cartabia, Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Giuseppe Conte, Umberto Galimberti, Massimo Recalcati, Stefano Mancuso, Mario Tozzi, Luciano Floridi, and international guests such as Eshkol Nevo, Geoff Dyer, and Javier Castillo.
Francesca Fialdini receives the "Valore Donna BCC San Marzano 2026 Award".
The complete day-by-day program is published on the official website libropossibile.com.
Vieste is located on the Gargano promontory, in the northern part of Puglia, in the province of Foggia. By car, it can be reached via the SS89 Garganica; the nearest train stations are San Severo and Foggia, which are connected to Vieste by bus lines. In summer, maritime connections are active with the Tremiti Islands and other Adriatic ports. The nearest airport is Bari Karol Wojtyลa Airport.
All events are free and open to the public. The detailed program with times, locations, and guests is published on the official website libropossibile.com and on the festival's social media channels.
The meetings take place mainly in Piazza della Marina Piccola: it is advisable to arrive early to find a seat. As this is high tourist season, it is recommended to book accommodation in Vieste or in nearby Gargano towns well in advance.
