The MTB Granfondo on the slopes of Monte Carpegna, dedicated to Marco Pantani
Il Carpegna mi basta is the mountain bike granfondo that every June draws hundreds of bikers from all over Central Italy to Carpegna, in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino. The event takes place entirely on the slopes of Monte Carpegna, the symbolic mountain of the Marche's Montefeltro region, offering a perfect balance of nature, sport, and tradition. Organized by G.C. Carpegna in collaboration with G.S. Mondobici, it is now a regular fixture on the Italian MTB calendar.
The race has a special soul: it is dedicated to the legendary Marco Pantani, who found his ideal training ground on the slopes of Monte Carpegna. Pedaling here means retracing the roads and dirt tracks that forged one of the greatest climbers in cycling history, immersed in an Apennine landscape of woods, high-altitude meadows, and views stretching to the Adriatic Sea.
The strength of the event lies in the variety of routes, designed to accommodate competitors, cycle tourists, and young people:
In recent years, the event has grown to become a true weekend dedicated to two wheels, with registration and welcome services already available on Saturday. On race day Sunday, the village of Carpegna comes alive from the early morning hours with start grids, cheering along the routes, and convivial moments. The event is part of numerous large-area MTB circuits, including the Rampitek Series, Appennino Superbike, Romagna Bike Cup, and Coppa Marche, confirming its prestige in the off-road scene.
The setting for the day is Carpegna, a small municipality in the Province of Pesaro and Urbino known for its DOP ham, the Palazzo dei Principi, and its proximity to the Sasso Simone and Simoncello Natural Park. A border territory between Marche, Romagna, and Tuscany that makes its hilly and mountainous landscape its calling card: the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable ride.
The 2026 edition of Il Carpegna mi basta takes place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, in Carpegna, confirming the event as a bike experience weekend: not just a race, but a full weekend centered around Monte Carpegna. The event offers four routes designed for every level, from technical trails for the fittest to more accessible distances for cycle tourists and youth categories. The start is scheduled for 9:30 AM from the center of Carpegna.
Carpegna can be reached by car via the SS258 Marecchiese (exit towards Pennabilli and Carpegna) or from the Adriatic coast by heading inland from Pesaro. The nearest train station is Pesaro, from which you can continue by car towards Montefeltro.
The race secretariat opens on Saturday afternoon from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Sunday morning from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM. Registration can be done online on the official website. For competitive routes, membership in a cycling federation or an competitive medical certificate is required; for non-competitive routes, a medical certificate for non-competitive activities is sufficient.
Bring spare clothing, a mandatory helmet, and clothing suitable for the mountains: weather conditions can change rapidly at altitude. Carpegna offers ham shops, restaurants, and accommodation facilities ideal for staying the day before the race.
