Three vintage days of music, colours and Seventies atmosphere in the historic centre of Castelfidardo
Every summer, the historic centre of Castelfidardo, in the province of Ancona, transforms into a giant time machine that takes visitors and the curious back to the most colourful decade of the 20th century. "I Favolosi Anni '70" is the event that, in just a few years, has become one of the most beloved appointments of the Marche summer: a widespread festival that invades the squares, streets, and buildings of the town of accordions and harmonicas with the music, colours, scents, and atmosphere of the 1970-1979 decade.
The hallmark of the festival is the sets, strictly handmade by volunteers from the organising association: decorations, installations, and reconstructions that stretch for over a kilometre, from Piazza Trento e Trieste to the Monument roundabout, where a large themed installation is set up each year. It is a collective effort involving work groups, schools, and citizens, making every corner of the town a small Seventies film set.
The soundtrack is the beating heart of the event. On the stage set up at Porta Marina, near Piazzale Don Minzoni, renowned national bands perform live, with appearances by local dance schools, while in Piazza della Repubblica, DJ sets liven up the evenings until late at night with the decade's greatest rhythm and blues, rock, soul, and disco hits. One of the most recent innovations is "Radio Favolosa '70", a web radio created with the technical support of students from the Meucci institute, broadcasting live from the festival.
In addition to music, the festival offers a rich, widespread programme: Piazzale Don Minzoni hosts the vintage market along with stands from volunteer associations, while along Via Matteotti, a static exhibition of vintage vehicles takes place, with a different theme each day. The Auditorium San Francesco, on the other hand, hosts exhibitions and cultural spaces with meetings dedicated to the music, cinema, and art of the decade. During the festival, the civic museums and the Caves of Sant'Anna also remain open to the public.
Organised with the support of the Municipal Administration of Castelfidardo, the Pro Loco, and numerous sponsors, "I Favolosi Anni '70" is a free event designed for all ages: families, vintage enthusiasts, music lovers, and the simply curious can stroll among the sets, dance in the square, and rediscover the spirit of a decade that continues to inspire dreams. An event that enhances the historic centre of Castelfidardo and the identity of a city that is a symbol of the musical tradition of the Marche region.
The fifth edition of "I Favolosi Anni '70" takes place in Castelfidardo from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 June 2026, with the town transformed into a giant Seventies set from Piazza Trento e Trieste to the Monument roundabout, where a large scenic installation is planned.
Among the innovations is the web radio "Radio Favolosa '70", created with the support of students from the Meucci institute.
