About Hanging Provolone

In Garaguso, a village in the Matera region at the gates of the Lucanian Dolomites, the Pro Loco celebrates a specialty of local dairy tradition: the hanging provolone. Amidst tastings, fresh pasta, and typical products, a young but already beloved festival that enhances the authentic flavors of Basilicata in Piazza Europa.

The Provolone That Becomes Tradition

In the heart of Garaguso, a small municipality in the province of Matera overlooking the Lucanian Dolomites, there is a flavor that tells the dairy wisdom of this land: the hanging provolone. It is to this that the Pro Loco Garaguso APS dedicates a young festival that has already won the hearts of the community, hosted in Piazza Europa, in the center of the village.

A Feast of Lucanian Flavors

The day of the festival transforms the square into a large open-air banquet: the absolute protagonist is the hanging provolone, but alongside it, you'll find handmade fresh pasta and other typical products of Lucanian tradition, from cured meats to peasant dishes. The Pro Loco, the engine of Garaguso's associative life, takes care of every aspect of the event with the dedication of those who want to keep a tradition alive and make it known to visitors.

Garaguso Beyond the Festival

The festival is also an opportunity to discover Garaguso, a village with ancient origins, a custodian of significant archaeological heritage, and immersed in the landscape of golden sandbanks along the Salandrella stream. A few kilometers away lie the spires of the Lucanian Dolomites, with Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa among the most beautiful villages in Italy. A weekend of taste and nature, in the name of Lucanian authenticity.
