About Spinoso Chestnut

When the woods of Val d'Agri turn to autumn colours, Spinoso lights up its Chestnut Festival. For one day, the historic centre fills with stalls offering roasted chestnuts, typical Lucanian sweets and dishes, local wine, polenta and cheeses, amidst folk music, dancing, and entertainment. A festival organised by the Pro Loco that showcases a territory rich in history and nature.

The Lucanian Autumn Festival

In Spinoso, a village in the Val d'Agri in the Province of Potenza, the Chestnut Festival is the autumn event par excellence. Organised by the Pro Loco Spinoso, the event celebrates the fruit of the local chestnut groves in a day of festivities that attracts visitors from all over the province.

Roasted Chestnuts and Mountain Flavours

For the occasion, the streets of the historic centre are filled with food stalls where the chestnut is offered in all its forms - starting with the unmissable roasted chestnuts - accompanied by local wines and dishes from traditional Lucanian cuisine, such as polenta and local cheeses. A stroll through taste and tradition, from morning until evening.

Music, Dancing, and Community

The festival is not just about food: live folk music, traditional dances, and entertainment for all ages liven up the day, creating the warm and festive atmosphere typical of village festivals. It is also an opportunity to learn about the harvesting and processing techniques of chestnuts, a symbol of a territory tied to its woods.

Spinoso and the Val d'Agri

Overlooking the Pertusillo lake, Spinoso is surrounded by a landscape of chestnut groves and mountains that form the natural backdrop to the festival. The Chestnut Festival, a well-established event with over twenty years of history, is one of the occasions when the village enhances its agricultural identity and welcomes visitors to the heart of the Lucanian autumn.

Spinoso Chestnut — edition 2026

The Chestnut Festival returns to Spinoso in autumn 2026, during the usual month of October, with the historic centre alive with stalls of roasted chestnuts, typical Val d'Agri products, local wines, folk music, and dancing. The exact date will be announced by Pro Loco Spinoso.
