Spinoso celebrates autumn with its Chestnut Festival
In Spinoso, a village in the Val d'Agri in the Province of Potenza, the Chestnut Festival is the autumn event par excellence. Organised by the Pro Loco Spinoso, the event celebrates the fruit of the local chestnut groves in a day of festivities that attracts visitors from all over the province.
For the occasion, the streets of the historic centre are filled with food stalls where the chestnut is offered in all its forms - starting with the unmissable roasted chestnuts - accompanied by local wines and dishes from traditional Lucanian cuisine, such as polenta and local cheeses. A stroll through taste and tradition, from morning until evening.
The festival is not just about food: live folk music, traditional dances, and entertainment for all ages liven up the day, creating the warm and festive atmosphere typical of village festivals. It is also an opportunity to learn about the harvesting and processing techniques of chestnuts, a symbol of a territory tied to its woods.
Overlooking the Pertusillo lake, Spinoso is surrounded by a landscape of chestnut groves and mountains that form the natural backdrop to the festival. The Chestnut Festival, a well-established event with over twenty years of history, is one of the occasions when the village enhances its agricultural identity and welcomes visitors to the heart of the Lucanian autumn.
For 2026, the Spinoso Chestnut Festival is expected in the usual autumn period of October, organised as every year by the Pro Loco Spinoso.
The day will feature food stalls with roasted chestnuts and Val d'Agri specialties, local wines, folk music, dancing, and entertainment for all ages in the historic centre. The exact date and programme will be announced by the Pro Loco in the weeks preceding the event.
