About Festival of Dried Figs

The Festival of Dried Figs and Autumn Flavours celebrates one of the most typical products of Miglionico's peasant tradition, in the Province of Matera: the dried fig, presented in a thousand forms. Through the stone streets of the village and in the evocative setting of the Castello del Malconsiglio, the event combines tastings, workshops, exhibitions, folk music, and guided tours of the historic centre.

When autumn smells of dried figs

There is a flavour that tells of Miglionico's autumn better than any other: the sweet and ancient taste of dried figs. The Festival of Dried Figs and Autumn Flavours was created precisely to celebrate this product of Lucanian peasant tradition, a fruit that for centuries represented a precious resource for the families of the Matera village.

The fig in all its forms

Along the stone streets of the historic centre, dried figs transform into a feast for the palate: stuffed with walnuts, covered in chocolate, paired with aged cheeses, or featured in jams, sweets, and traditional preparations. Surrounding them is the rich repertoire of Basilicata's autumn flavours, in a journey of taste that enhances the typical products of the region.

Not just gastronomy

The festival is much more than a food celebration. The programme includes live demonstrations, workshops, and experiential paths, as well as musical performances, folk dance moments, craft exhibitions, shows, round tables, and guided tours of the evocative historic centre. The heart of the event is the Castello del Malconsiglio, a fortress famous for hosting the Conspiracy of the Barons against Ferdinand of Aragon in 1485.

A community festival

Organized by the Pro Loco Miglionico in collaboration with UNPLI and the Municipality, the festival is a rooted event that attracts visitors from all over Basilicata and beyond. It is the ideal opportunity to discover an authentic village a few kilometres from Matera, immersing yourself in the flavours and traditions of the Lucanian autumn.

Festival of Dried Figs — edition 2026

The nineteenth edition of the Festival of Dried Figs and Autumn Flavours is scheduled in Miglionico for the first days of October 2026 (indicative dates 3-5 October, to be officially confirmed).
