The most anticipated costume party for children, featuring parades, games, and the Death of Carnival in Piazza Cirillo
The Grumo Nevano Carnival is one of the most cherished winter traditions in this town within the Metropolitan City of Naples, in Campania. When the mask season arrives, the streets fill with confetti, music, and laughter: it is a celebration for local families and children who wait all year to dress up and head to the square. The hub of the festivities is Piazza Domenico Cirillo, the town's main square, where the day's highlights take place.
The event kicks off with a cheerful costumed parade that winds through the town center, accompanied by a marching band. Adults and children dressed as all kinds of characters animate the route until they reach Piazza Cirillo, where an area is set up entirely for fun. Here, little ones find a playground, classic carnival games, entertainment, magic shows, and sweets for everyone in a festive, communal atmosphere.
Alongside the children's entertainment, the Grumo Nevano Carnival preserves a piece of Campanian folk culture: the performance of the Death of Carnival, a symbolic ritual that closes the carnival season with the allegorical funeral of the Carnival puppet. It is a nod to the rich tradition of local folk theater, which includes the famous Canzone della Zeza, one of the most original expressions of folklore in the Naples province.
The organization is managed by the Gruppo Biesse, led by Salvatore Belardo, an association highly active in the social life of Grumo Nevano, with the support of the Metropolitan City of Naples and the patronage of the Municipality of Grumo Nevano. Thanks to their efforts, the festival remains a popular, free event designed primarily for the youth. At the end of the day, the most beautiful costumes are awarded prizes, with special recognition for the participating children.
The 2026 edition of the Grumo Nevano Carnival took place on Sunday, February 15, 2026, confirming it as the most beloved event for the town's children. The festival, organized by the Gruppo Biesse of Salvatore Belardo with the support of the Metropolitan City of Naples and the patronage of the Municipality, animated the city streets with a cheerful costumed procession accompanied by a marching band, culminating in Piazza Domenico Cirillo.
In the central area, games, a playground for the little ones, a fishing game, magic shows, and entertainment were set up, with sweets for everyone. The performance of the Death of Carnival and the awarding of the most beautiful costumes—a moment highly anticipated by the participating children—were also highlights of the day.
