In the heart of autumn, when the agro-area north of Naples slows its pace, Frattaminore experiences its most heartfelt day: the one dedicated to Saint Simeon the Prophet, the town's patron saint. The Patronal Feast of Saint Simeon the Prophet is celebrated every year on October 8th, transforming the town center into a place of gathering, prayer, and tradition, weaving together religious devotion and public celebration.
Venerated as the wise elder who recognized the Messiah in the temple, Saint Simeon the Prophet has been a symbol of faith and hope for the Frattaminore community for centuries. His cult has ancient roots: the parish church named after him preserves a statue of the Saint dating back to 1648 on the high altar, while the building itself has medieval origins, as evidenced by a fresco depicting Pope Gregory VII discovered during restoration work. It is around this centuries-old statue that the entire town gathers every October 8th.
The patronal day is divided into two complementary parts. In the morning, Eucharistic celebrations in the parish church culminate in a solemn Mass in honor of the patron saint. The emotional heart of the festival, however, is the solemn procession: the statue of Saint Simeon is carried on shoulders along the main streets of the center, followed by the faithful and local confraternities, accompanied by a brass band.
With just over fifteen thousand inhabitants, Frattaminore is part of the Metropolitan City of Naples and lies in the northern area of the capital, bordering the province of Caserta, in the territory of ancient Atella where patronal festivals remain a strong identity marker. For those visiting Campania away from the main tourist circuits, the feast of Saint Simeon is an opportunity to experience an authentic tradition, where the community finds itself reflected in its Saint and its history.
The patronal feast of Frattaminore returns, in accordance with centuries-old tradition, on October 8, 2026. The community will gather around the 17th-century statue of Saint Simeon the Prophet to renew their devotion to their protector, in a day that combines religious celebrations in the parish church with civil festivities along the streets of the town center.
