Christmas in the Ceramics Quarter of Grottaglie
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Christmas Edition of the Grottaglie Ceramics Festival is the winter version of the festival dedicated to the ancient pottery art that has made this town in the province of Taranto, Puglia, world-famous. For a few days, the historic Ceramics Quarter—with its alleys, caves, and workshops carved into the tuff—turns into a charming Christmas village, where the memory of clay meets the magic of the holidays.
The scenic heart of the event is the Scalinata dei Ceramisti, dominated by a large illuminated tree, which serves as the starting point for a route of scenic installations and warm lights that envelop the entire quarter. Along the way, street performers and Christmas characters accompany visitors in an immersive experience designed for both adults and children.
The program brings the streets of the quarter to life with stilt walkers, bagpipers, marching bands, elves, and Santa Claus, as well as storytelling theater performances by various troupes. The star remains the ceramic: in the workshops of the master potters, there are workshops for children, families, and enthusiasts, dedicated to clay molding, the potter's wheel, and decoration. The Grottaglie Pro Loco also offers guided tours through the studios, stories, and architecture of the quarter.
Santa's Village welcomes children to drop off their letters, while the route is filled with tastings of local products and festive specialties. The event maintains a strong charitable focus: one of the evenings hosts a charity auction to support inclusion projects for young people on the autism spectrum, such as "Le Orecchiette che Vorrei".
Organized by the APS Nura association with the support of the Municipality of Grottaglie and the Pro Loco, the Christmas Edition complements the summer edition of the Ceramics Festival, helping to promote the artisanal and identity-based heritage of the Ceramics Quarter all year round. An event that combines culture, tradition, and Christmas atmosphere in the Apulian village most closely linked to the art of ceramics.
The 2026 Christmas Edition of the Grottaglie Ceramics Festival does not yet have official dates. Keeping in mind the neighborhood's Christmas tradition, the event is expected to return in December 2026 with its usual Christmas village, workshops in the studios, and street performances. Information will be updated as soon as the APS Nura association and the Municipality of Grottaglie publish the calendar.
The event takes place in the Ceramics Quarter of Grottaglie (TA), with the entrance from Via Santa Sofia and the heart of the activity on the Scalinata dei Ceramisti. Events also take place at Casa Vestita and the artisan workshops in the quarter.
By car: take the Grottaglie exit from the SS7 Taranto-Brindisi highway. By train: Grottaglie station on the Taranto-Brindisi line, then a short trip to the historic center. Nearest airport: Brindisi-Casale.
The event takes place in the public spaces of the quarter with free access; some workshops and guided tours may require booking. Guided tours by the Pro Loco can be booked through the contacts indicated on official channels.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for uphill alleys and staircases. Visiting in the evening is recommended to fully enjoy the light installations.
