The ultimate summer food festival in Torre Suda, the seaside district of Racale
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Grilled Meat Festival is the culinary celebration that brings Torre Suda, the seaside district of Racale in the province of Lecce, to life every summer. Located in the heart of lower Salento, the event traditionally takes place in the Gabriele Toma Coastal Garden, just a stone's throw from the Ionian Sea, drawing locals, vacationers, and curious visitors from all the surrounding towns. It is a popular, open-air, and free-entry event that has become one of the defining moments of the Racale summer over the years.
The star of the festival is, of course, the grilled meat, cooked over charcoal according to the finest Salento traditions. Food stalls offer specialties from the local rural cuisine: bombette, sausages, meat rolls, meatballs, roasted peppers, and other authentic dishes rooted in the flavors of the past. The grills are manned by Pro Loco volunteers, who handle the preparation and service, ensuring affordable prices and generous portions in a convivial atmosphere that is an integral part of the festival's spirit.
The festival evenings are about more than just great food: every edition features performances and live music ranging from pizzica and traditional Salento sounds to dance music and classic Italian and international hits. Local folk groups enliven the small squares of the coastal garden with tambourines and popular rhythms, while the final evenings often turn into massive dance parties open to all ages. The festival takes place around the Night of San Lorenzo, when the Salento coastline experiences one of its most evocative moments.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Torre Suda with the patronage of the Municipality of Racale, the Grilled Meat Festival is much more than a food event: it is a gathering place for the community, a way to celebrate local rural traditions, and a warm welcome to the many visitors who choose the Salento Ionian coast in August. In 2025, the event reached its ninth edition, cementing its status as one of the most popular summer festivals in this part of Puglia.
The Pro Loco of Torre Suda has not yet announced the official dates and program for the 2026 Grilled Meat Festival. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to take place around mid-August in the Gabriele Toma Coastal Garden in the seaside district of Racale. We will update this page with dates, food stands, and musical evenings as soon as the information is released by the organizers.
