The downhill stage on the slopes of San Giacomo di Roburent
The Gravity Race Monte Alpet is the event that brings elite mountain bike downhill racing to the mountains of the Municipality of Roburent, in the heart of the Monregalese Alps, in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont. The event is held on the historic and technical Monte Alpet track, above the village of San Giacomo di Roburent—a course that has previously hosted Italian Cup races and remains one of the most demanding in the region.
The race is part of the Gravity Race interregional circuit, created to bring together the best gravity discipline athletes from Piedmont and the Aosta Valley. The Roburent stage carries double weight: in addition to contributing to the circuit standings, it awards the Piedmont Regional Downhill Champion jersey, attracting athletes from across the entire peninsula and the islands.
Downhill is a spectacular specialty: riders tackle a predominantly dirt course characterized by technical sections, natural and artificial obstacles, berms, and jumps. Over 160 riders compete on Monte Alpet, divided into twelve categories ranging from the youngest (starting at age 13) to masters over 60, in a setting that combines sport, nature, and a passion for the mountains.
The event is hosted at the Monte Alpet Bike Village, one of the most well-known hubs for gravity cycle tourism in Piedmont, featuring dedicated downhill trails and a technical, challenging final track. The layout of the mountainside, the ample space, and the organizers' experience make San Giacomo di Roburent a reference point for downhill racing in the Cuneo area.
The event is organized by ASD Gravity Generation of Mondovì, a sports association affiliated with the Italian Cycling Federation, with the support of technical partners and the institutional backing of the Piedmont Regional Council, the Province, and the municipal administration of Roburent. The stage is included in the regional calendar of Federciclismo Piemonte and represents an important moment of sports and tourism promotion for the entire Monregalese territory.
Roburent and its tourist hamlet of San Giacomo are a popular destination in the Cuneo Alps, frequented in winter for skiing and in summer for mountain biking and hiking. The Gravity Race is the perfect opportunity to discover this corner of Piedmont in a sporty and adrenaline-filled way, with spectators watching the descents along the Monte Alpet track.
The second stage of the 2026 Gravity Race took place on Sunday, May 17, 2026, on the technical Monte Alpet track above San Giacomo di Roburent. Despite concerns that the snow that fell on Friday might disrupt the event, the track was cleared of mud on Saturday night and prepared to allow the finals to be held safely.
Over 160 riders from all over Italy, including the islands, took part in the race, divided into twelve categories ranging from 13-year-olds to masters over 60. The stage awarded the 2026 Piedmont Regional Downhill Champion jerseys, with victories going to Erik Zanotel, Zaira Shah, Michele Rinaldi, Irene Bergamasco, Thomas Bruno, and Rebecca Bruno in their respective categories.
The organization by ASD Gravity Generation of Mondovì, with the support of technical partners and local institutions, confirmed Monte Alpet as one of the key hubs for downhill racing in the Cuneo area.
Race program for Sunday, May 17, 2026: timed practice runs and final heats on the Monte Alpet track, followed by the awards ceremony with the presentation of the Piedmont Regional Downhill Champion jerseys across the twelve categories.
San Giacomo di Roburent can be reached by car from the Turin-Savona (A6) motorway, taking the Niella Tanaro exit and continuing towards Torre Mondovì and Roburent (about 20 minutes from the motorway exit). The Monte Alpet track is located at altitude above the village of San Giacomo.
Participation in the race is reserved for riders registered according to the categories provided by the circuit regulations. For registration, updated regulations, and the event calendar, please consult the channels of ASD Gravity Generation and Federciclismo Piemonte. Public access along the track is generally free.
We recommend wearing clothing suitable for the mountains: even in spring, conditions at altitude can be cold and variable. Accommodation facilities are available in the area for those staying during the race weekend.
