About Mountain Book Fair

The Mountain Book Fair in Frabosa Sottana is a literary festival entirely dedicated to the world of the mountains. For two days, the Town Hall's Council Chamber in the province of Cuneo comes alive with book presentations, conferences, and screenings. Organized by the Valle Maudagna Cultural Association, the event brings together authors, scholars, and enthusiasts to explore themes of the highlands, depopulation, traditions, and the environment. Admission is free.

A festival dedicated to highland culture

The Mountain Book Fair is a literary event held every summer in Frabosa Sottana, a small town in the Valle Maudagna in the province of Cuneo, nestled in the heart of the Maritime Alps of Piedmont. Created to give a voice to the rich national publishing output dedicated to mountain life, the fair offers two days of meetings, presentations, debates, and screenings that turn the Town Hall's Council Chamber into a meeting point for authors, publishers, scholars, and readers.

A program of presentations and conferences

The common thread of the festival is the relationship between humanity and the mountains, explored in all its forms: local history, folk traditions, dialects, the environment, emigration, and fiction. Each edition features numerous authors who present their works in person, accompanied by thematic conferences and moments of reflection on the major issues facing the highlands, from the depopulation of alpine villages to climate change.

  • Book presentations with the direct participation of the authors;
  • Conferences and seminars on history, the environment, and mountain traditions;
  • Screenings and moments dedicated to the memory of the territory;
  • A bookstore space curated by local bookshops.

An event rooted in the territory

The event is organized by the Valle Maudagna Cultural Association, chaired by Gianni Dulbecco, and is supported by the Piedmont Region, the Province of Cuneo, and the Municipality of Frabosa Sottana, with the backing of local institutions such as the Fondazione CRC and the Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Pianfei e Rocca de' Baldi. Over the years, the fair has become a staple of the summer in the Monregalese area, showcasing the cultural and identity heritage of the Cuneo valleys and forging ties with the neighboring regions of Liguria and France.

Why attend

With its free admission and the intimate setting of an authentic mountain village, the Mountain Book Fair offers a precious opportunity to discover books often overlooked by mainstream publishing, meet authors, and delve into alpine culture. It is an ideal event for those who love the mountains, reading, and slow tourism, perfect to combine with a holiday among the trails and landscapes of the Valle Maudagna.
