Two days of books, encounters, and mountain culture in the heart of the Valle Maudagna
The Mountain Book Fair is a literary event held every summer in Frabosa Sottana, a small town in the Valle Maudagna in the province of Cuneo, nestled in the heart of the Maritime Alps of Piedmont. Created to give a voice to the rich national publishing output dedicated to mountain life, the fair offers two days of meetings, presentations, debates, and screenings that turn the Town Hall's Council Chamber into a meeting point for authors, publishers, scholars, and readers.
The common thread of the festival is the relationship between humanity and the mountains, explored in all its forms: local history, folk traditions, dialects, the environment, emigration, and fiction. Each edition features numerous authors who present their works in person, accompanied by thematic conferences and moments of reflection on the major issues facing the highlands, from the depopulation of alpine villages to climate change.
The event is organized by the Valle Maudagna Cultural Association, chaired by Gianni Dulbecco, and is supported by the Piedmont Region, the Province of Cuneo, and the Municipality of Frabosa Sottana, with the backing of local institutions such as the Fondazione CRC and the Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Pianfei e Rocca de' Baldi. Over the years, the fair has become a staple of the summer in the Monregalese area, showcasing the cultural and identity heritage of the Cuneo valleys and forging ties with the neighboring regions of Liguria and France.
With its free admission and the intimate setting of an authentic mountain village, the Mountain Book Fair offers a precious opportunity to discover books often overlooked by mainstream publishing, meet authors, and delve into alpine culture. It is an ideal event for those who love the mountains, reading, and slow tourism, perfect to combine with a holiday among the trails and landscapes of the Valle Maudagna.
The 12th edition of the Mountain Book Fair takes place in Frabosa Sottana (Cuneo) on Saturday, July 18, and Sunday, July 19, 2026, in the Town Hall's Council Chamber. The organization by the Valle Maudagna Cultural Association and the patronage of the Piedmont Region and the Province of Cuneo, with the support of the Fondazione CRC, are confirmed. Admission to all initiatives is free.
The program alternates opening conferences, book presentations with authors, and moments dedicated to the history and traditions of the highlands, with a bookstore space managed by Libreria Confabula.
