About Contaminazioni

For an entire month, Frabosa Soprana, a small mountain town in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont, transforms into a sprawling artistic laboratory. The Contaminazioni Festival weaves together concerts, theatre, performances, and international masterclasses, showcasing over 250 musicians, artists, and young talents from around the globe. The town's balconies, courtyards, workshops, churches, and squares become stages, fostering the continuous dialogue between diverse artistic languages that gives the event its name.

The Contaminazioni Festival in Frabosa Soprana

The Contaminazioni Festival is one of the most vibrant cultural events in the Piedmontese summer. Established in 2015, it transforms Frabosa Soprana, a mountain village in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont, into a vast, open-air artistic laboratory every year. Its name reflects its very essence: the 'contamination'—or blending—of music, theatre, art, and education in a constant dialogue between different genres and styles.

A village turned into a stage

For nearly a month, the town resonates with life and undergoes a transformation. Balconies, courtyards, local shops, historic buildings, churches, and town squares become intimate, scattered stages, brought to life by the notes of over 250 musicians, artists, and young talents from all over the world. The main venues include the Sala Polivalente, the evocative Chiesa del Serro, and various spots throughout the historic centre.

Concerts, theatre, and performances

The programme balances high artistic quality with an appeal to a diverse audience. Past highlights have included theatrical and musical storytelling, contemporary reinterpretations of great literary classics, concert-shows dedicated to Italian singer-songwriters, tributes to music and cinema icons, as well as family-friendly shows and magic performances.

Education: International Masterclasses

At the heart of the festival are the Musical Perfection Courses, international masterclasses led by professors from prestigious institutions such as the Teatro Regio in Turin, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and the Arena di Verona. Open rehearsals, workshops, and student concerts allow the public to engage with the educational process, culminating in a final performance by the best students.

A festival with a social heart

Beyond its artistic offerings, the festival maintains a strong social commitment through projects like Suono per Te (Sound for You) and the Borse di Viviana, scholarships dedicated to supporting young talent. Since 2015, the event has hosted thousands of musicians, actors, dancers, international teachers, and students.

Direction and Organization

The Contaminazioni Festival is conceived and organized by the association Estemporanea - Arte, Musica, Teatro, under the artistic direction of Lucia Margherita Marino, and is supported by the Municipality of Frabosa Soprana, the Piedmont Region, and local partners.
