A month of music, theatre, and art in the villages of Frabosa Soprana
The Contaminazioni Festival is one of the most vibrant cultural events in the Piedmontese summer. Established in 2015, it transforms Frabosa Soprana, a mountain village in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont, into a vast, open-air artistic laboratory every year. Its name reflects its very essence: the 'contamination'—or blending—of music, theatre, art, and education in a constant dialogue between different genres and styles.
For nearly a month, the town resonates with life and undergoes a transformation. Balconies, courtyards, local shops, historic buildings, churches, and town squares become intimate, scattered stages, brought to life by the notes of over 250 musicians, artists, and young talents from all over the world. The main venues include the Sala Polivalente, the evocative Chiesa del Serro, and various spots throughout the historic centre.
The programme balances high artistic quality with an appeal to a diverse audience. Past highlights have included theatrical and musical storytelling, contemporary reinterpretations of great literary classics, concert-shows dedicated to Italian singer-songwriters, tributes to music and cinema icons, as well as family-friendly shows and magic performances.
At the heart of the festival are the Musical Perfection Courses, international masterclasses led by professors from prestigious institutions such as the Teatro Regio in Turin, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and the Arena di Verona. Open rehearsals, workshops, and student concerts allow the public to engage with the educational process, culminating in a final performance by the best students.
Beyond its artistic offerings, the festival maintains a strong social commitment through projects like Suono per Te (Sound for You) and the Borse di Viviana, scholarships dedicated to supporting young talent. Since 2015, the event has hosted thousands of musicians, actors, dancers, international teachers, and students.
The Contaminazioni Festival is conceived and organized by the association Estemporanea - Arte, Musica, Teatro, under the artistic direction of Lucia Margherita Marino, and is supported by the Municipality of Frabosa Soprana, the Piedmont Region, and local partners.
The twelfth edition of the Contaminazioni Festival takes place in Frabosa Soprana (Province of Cuneo, Piedmont) from June 28th to July 26th, 2026, offering nearly a month of events blending music, theatre, art, and education.
The programme opens on Sunday, June 28th at 9:00 PM at the Sala Polivalente with L'Ultimo Gigolò, a theatrical-musical narrative dedicated to the figure of Porfirio Rubirosa. Announced highlights include: I Promessi Sposi On Air, a contemporary reinterpretation of Manzoni's masterpiece; L'Opera in Noir, bridging opera and literature; the traditional Concerto a Sorpresa in Bianco; the Mina tribute Mille Bolle Blu; Marilyn: i due volti del mito, marking the centenary of her birth; and the magic show Andy Magic. The festival concludes on July 25th and 26th with On Stage, the final showcase of the best students from the Musical Perfection Courses.
In 2026, the festival continues to host international masterclasses with professors from the Teatro Regio in Turin, RAI, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and the Arena di Verona, alongside solidarity projects like Suono per Te and Borse di Viviana. Main venues include the Sala Polivalente, the Chiesa del Serro, and spaces throughout the historic centre.
Frabosa Soprana is located in the Monregalese area, in the Province of Cuneo. By car, it can be reached via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Mondovì exit), continuing towards the Monregalese valleys. The nearest train station is in Mondovì, which is connected to the village by mountain roads.
Many festival events are free to attend or operate on a voluntary donation basis; some shows and concerts may require a ticket. It is recommended to check the specific details and prices on the official website or with the organizers.
