About District Palio

The Pianfei District Palio is the grand summer challenge that brings the small town in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont, to life. After a seven-year hiatus, the event returns to energize the village: six districts—Oltrepesio, Mussi-Viglioni, Centro, via Resistenza, via Sacheri, and Blangetti—compete for the historic banner at the municipal sports field, amidst competition nights, passionate cheering, and a strong sense of community. More than just a contest, it is the defining festival of Pianfei.

The return of the Pianfei District Palio

After a seven-year break, the Pianfei District Palio is back to make the heart of the village beat once again in the Monregalese area, in the province of Cuneo. It is one of the most cherished events for the community of this small Piedmontese town, capable of involving people of all ages and strengthening the bonds between the various neighborhoods of the village, nestled at the foot of the Bisalta mountain.

Six districts in the race

Six districts are competing for the title, each with its own colors and neighborhood pride:

  • Oltrepesio — 2025 edition winner
  • Mussi-Viglioni
  • Centro
  • via Resistenza
  • via Sacheri
  • Blangetti

At stake is the historic Palio banner, a relic over twenty years old that is awarded each year to the winning district and guarded with pride until the following edition.

Where and how it takes place

The competition nights are held at the municipal sports field in Pianfei, which transforms into the arena for the district challenge. Teams from the various neighborhoods face off in a series of events, amidst organized cheering, flags, and chants, in an atmosphere of healthy rivalry and village celebration.

More than a competition: the festival of Pianfei

The Palio is not just a sporting moment, but an opportunity for gathering that represents one of the most beloved events for the Pianfei community. The event is part of the town's summer calendar and attracts residents, former locals, supporters, and curious visitors every year, blending the spirit of the game with conviviality and local tradition. For the small village in the Cuneo area, it is a way to rediscover a sense of belonging to one's district and to experience the early summer evenings together.
