Six districts compete for the title in the heart of the Monregalese area
After a seven-year break, the Pianfei District Palio is back to make the heart of the village beat once again in the Monregalese area, in the province of Cuneo. It is one of the most cherished events for the community of this small Piedmontese town, capable of involving people of all ages and strengthening the bonds between the various neighborhoods of the village, nestled at the foot of the Bisalta mountain.
Six districts are competing for the title, each with its own colors and neighborhood pride:
At stake is the historic Palio banner, a relic over twenty years old that is awarded each year to the winning district and guarded with pride until the following edition.
The competition nights are held at the municipal sports field in Pianfei, which transforms into the arena for the district challenge. Teams from the various neighborhoods face off in a series of events, amidst organized cheering, flags, and chants, in an atmosphere of healthy rivalry and village celebration.
The Palio is not just a sporting moment, but an opportunity for gathering that represents one of the most beloved events for the Pianfei community. The event is part of the town's summer calendar and attracts residents, former locals, supporters, and curious visitors every year, blending the spirit of the game with conviviality and local tradition. For the small village in the Cuneo area, it is a way to rediscover a sense of belonging to one's district and to experience the early summer evenings together.
After seven years, the District Palio returns to Pianfei with six districts at the starting line: Oltrepesio, Mussi-Viglioni, Centro, via Resistenza, via Sacheri, and Blangetti. The neighborhood teams compete for the historic banner over the course of four competition nights at the municipal sports field, amidst trials, cheering, and celebration.
The challenge concludes with the award ceremony, during which the winning district of the 2026 edition is proclaimed.
The competition nights take place at the municipal sports field of Pianfei (CN), Piedmont. Pianfei is located in the Monregalese area, a few kilometers from Mondovì and Cuneo.
By car: from the A6 Turin-Savona motorway, take the Mondovì exit, then follow local roads towards Pianfei. By train: the reference station is Mondovì, connected to Cuneo and Turin, with onward travel by car or bus.
The event is a community-based, grassroots festival; for updated information on schedules and access, it is recommended to check the channels of the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Pianfei.
