Sicily's longest-running granfondo cycling race, between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Madonie mountains
The Granfondo della Ceramica is a historic fixture in Sicilian amateur cycling, recognized as the island's longest-running cycling event. Organized by the ASD Bici Club Stefanese, it takes place in Santo Stefano di Camastra, a refined village on the Tyrrhenian coast in the province of Messina, world-renowned for its artistic ceramics. The race takes its name from this identity, making the ceramic tradition a hallmark of the entire event.
The start and finish lines are located on Viale Giacomo Leopardi, while the event headquarters is set up in the evocative Palazzo Trabia, home to the Ceramics Museum. From here, cyclists set off on routes that alternate between views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and climbs into the hinterland, at the foot of the Madonie Park. The event offers several options: a long and challenging granfondo route, a shorter mediofondo route, and a cycle-touring track open to those seeking the pleasure of riding without the pressure of a stopwatch.
The Granfondo della Ceramica is more than just a popular two-wheeled celebration: it is a prestigious race that awards the FCI Sicily Regional Granfondo Championship titles and the ACSI Ciclismo regional titles, with champion jerseys for various men's and women's categories. The inclusion of the youth sector, with Juniors competing on the mediofondo route, confirms the event's commitment to nurturing the island's next generation of cyclists.
Riding in the Granfondo della Ceramica means immersing yourself in a day where sport blends with the art and culture of one of Sicily's most fascinating villages. The Municipality of Santo Stefano di Camastra welcomes athletes and their companions in a festive atmosphere, amidst ceramic workshops, sea views, and the typical hospitality of the Sicily Region. For many participants, the race is also an opportunity to discover a territory rich in history, flavors, and landscapes, from the Tyrrhenian beaches to the slopes of the Madonie.
Year after year, the Granfondo della Ceramica brings together clubs and individual amateur cyclists from all over Sicily, building a loyal community that recognizes this race as a symbol of their passion. The organizational care, focus on safety, and welcoming atmosphere make it one of the benchmark events in the regional granfondo calendar.
The nineteenth Granfondo della Ceramica is scheduled for Sunday, June 28, 2026, in Santo Stefano di Camastra (ME), with the start and finish on Viale Giacomo Leopardi. The date, originally planned for April, has been moved to late June by an organizational technical decision.
The meeting point, accreditation, and race pack collection take place at Palazzo Trabia - Ceramics Museum: Saturday, June 27 from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM and Sunday, June 28 from 6:15 AM to 7:50 AM. The starting grid opens at 7:30 AM.
The 2026 edition awards the FCI Sicily Regional Granfondo Championship titles and the ACSI Ciclismo regional titles (Granfondo and Mediofondo) for men's and women's categories aged 17 and over, including Super Gentleman categories for those over 60. There is also space for the youth sector with Juniors on the mediofondo route.
Santo Stefano di Camastra is located on the Tyrrhenian coast of Messina, along the SS113 road. By car, it can be reached via the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway (Santo Stefano di Camastra exit). The Santo Stefano di Camastra-Mistretta railway station is on the Palermo-Messina line.
Online registration is available on the official website and through dedicated circuits. Cycle-touring fees are around 35 euros; Master fees follow a tiered pricing structure based on the registration date (starting from 50 euros). A valid 2026 cycling license (FCI, ACSI, or recognized body) and a competitive sports medical certificate are mandatory.
Meeting point, accreditation, and race pack collection are at Palazzo Trabia - Ceramics Museum; start and finish are on Viale Giacomo Leopardi.
