The sports festival of San Maurizio Canavese in Piazza Marconi
The Gran Galà dello Sport is the event through which the Municipality of San Maurizio Canavese, in the province of Turin, pays tribute to its sporting community. The idea is simple and generous: for one night, the stars are not the famous athletes seen on television, but residents of all ages, artists in their own sporting lives at any level. From the child taking their first steps on a soccer field to the amateur running for the pure pleasure of it, from the volleyball team to the walking group: everyone finds their place on a stage set up in the heart of the town.
The event is held in Piazza Guglielmo Marconi, the main square of San Maurizio Canavese, where a stage is set up to host awards ceremonies, demonstrations, and festivities. The event is part of a weekend of activities: the Gala closes a program that, on previous evenings, also features the Buskers Festival on the same stage. The first edition, in 2025, was held in the space in front of the Antica Chiesa Plebana, a charming historical corner of the town.
The Gran Galà is a collaborative project involving local sports entities. Participating associations and groups include:
Initiatives like this perfectly illustrate the bond between sport and town life in the Canavese area and throughout Piedmont: grassroots sport here acts as a social glue, a way to help young people grow and keep the community vibrant. The Gran Galà dello Sport celebrates this popular and inclusive dimension, highlighting the commitment of volunteers, coaches, and families who bring the sports clubs of San Maurizio Canavese to life every year.
The 2026 edition of the Gran Galà dello Sport was held on Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 6:30 PM in Piazza Guglielmo Marconi. The evening concluded a weekend of events that saw the Buskers Festival animate the same stage over the two previous nights.
The protagonists were the local residents of all ages, celebrated for their sporting commitment at every level. Local sports entities took turns on stage, from youth teams to amateurs, in a festive, community atmosphere.
Participating entities included: PGS San Maurizio Sport Team, APD San Maurizio Calcio, GS Volley Nuova Agorà, ML Tennis Academy & Coaching, Runner Pillar, Muoversi Allegramente, Kaboom Act, and the ASL TO4 Walking Group. The event followed the Buskers Festival, which was scheduled on the same stage on the evenings of June 5 and 6.
The event is usually held in June, in the late evening or at dusk. The 2026 edition took place on Sunday, June 7th, at 6:30 PM.
