Eleven days of flavor, music, and culture in the heart of Cavallermaggiore
Every spring, the historic center of Cavallermaggiore, in the province of Cuneo, dresses up for the Gorgonzola PDO Festival, one of the most cherished food and wine events in Piedmont. Organized by the Pro Loco Cavallermaggiore with the support of the municipality and over two hundred volunteers, the event dedicates eleven full days to the famous blue-veined cheese, the true star of a program that blends taste, music, sports, and culture under the motto "Eat, Dance, Love."
The gastronomic heart of the festival is the Pala Gorgo, the large covered structure set up in Piazza Baden-Powell, where lunches and dinners featuring Gorgonzola PDO—both sweet and spicy—by main sponsor Biraghi are served, alongside great classics of Piedmontese cuisine. Along the town's streets, you will find street food in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the Piazza degli Erborinati (Blue Cheese Square) with small-scale blue cheese producers, and the Blu Arena, where free guided tastings pair Gorgonzola with local wines, beers, honey, and vermouth.
The festival is also a massive popular celebration. Evenings are enlivened by live concerts and DJ sets, while bands and traveling groups perform during the day. The program includes art exhibitions, the extraordinary opening of seven historic churches, guided tours of "Secret Cavallermaggiore," a Slow Food educational garden, and family shows. There is no shortage of sporting and festive events, such as the Vespa rally and the Gorgo Run.
With its market fair filling Via Roma and the squares with producers, affineurs, hobbyists, and artisans, the Gorgonzola PDO Festival is now considered one of the main fairs in Piedmont, showcasing the excellence of the Cuneo area and the nearby Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato regions. It is the perfect opportunity to discover Cavallermaggiore and its treasures, just a few kilometers from the UNESCO World Heritage vineyard landscapes.
Cavallermaggiore is located in the province of Cuneo, along the Turin-Savona-Cuneo railway line: the station is just a few minutes from the historic center. By car, it is easily reached from the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Marene exit) or via the main road towards Savigliano and Bra.
