Two evenings of flavor, music, and tradition in the Fontana district of Pagani
The Gnocco alla Fontana Festival is rooted in the Fontana district of Pagani, located in the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese area of the province of Salerno, in Campania. The undisputed star is the flour and potato gnocchi, handmade and tossed in a fresh tomato sauce with basil and cheese: a home-style recipe, humble in its ingredients yet generous in flavor, prepared in large quantities and served at street-side stalls.
This is not a gourmet exhibition or a commercial fair; it is a neighborhood celebration with open-air tables, volunteers in the kitchen, and families walking over from neighboring districts. This authentic, community-focused atmosphere is what has helped the festival grow, edition after edition, attracting visitors from across the Agro and the nearby Vesuvius area.
The event is organized by the Gesù Risorto Parish on Via Fontana, which mobilizes a large group of local volunteers every year, with the patronage of the Municipality of Pagani. The festival thus has a dual spirit: the conviviality of the table and the community life of the parish, which opens its doors to the neighborhood and the city during the festivities.
The 2026 edition, the sixteenth, took place on Saturday, May 30th, and Sunday, May 31st; the previous year, the fifteenth edition occupied the weekend of May 31st and June 1st, 2025.
The service follows the classic village festival format: order at the counter, pick up your food at the stalls, and take a seat at the communal tables, where it is common to find yourself sitting next to strangers and chatting until late in the evening.
Each evening features a unique musical program on the street-side stage. In 2026, Saturday was headlined by Diadema – Note d'Autore, an ensemble dedicated to Italian singer-songwriter music, with the evening broadcast live on Radio Base; Sunday featured the Cantore Pellegrino with the Uhanema group.
In 2025, the stage hosted Jhosef Zampella and the band I Vaj Mò on Saturday, while Sunday saw DJ Felix with entertainment by Giovanni De Filippis, followed by Gerardo Amarante and Spaccapaese, performers of the Neapolitan folk scene. Alongside the concerts, there are street performers, entertainment moments, and activities for children, making the festival suitable for the whole family.
Pagani is located in the agricultural plain of the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese, one of the most fertile areas in Campania, historically tied to the cultivation and processing of tomatoes. It is no surprise that the gnocchi sauce is taken seriously here: the fresh tomato and basil sauce is the element that, more than the pasta itself, defines the territory.
The festival is part of the spring and summer calendar of events in the Municipality of Pagani and the province of Salerno, representing a simple opportunity to discover a neighborhood that usually remains off the beaten tourist path.
The event traditionally falls on a weekend between the end of May and the beginning of June. Stalls open in the evening, and the largest crowds arrive after 8:00 PM, when the live music begins. Admission is free: you only pay for what you consume.
For the sixteenth edition, the Fontana district of Pagani hosted the festival on the weekend of May 30th and 31st, 2026. As per tradition, volunteers from the Gesù Risorto Parish prepared flour and potato gnocchi with fresh tomato sauce, basil, and cheese, served at the stalls alongside traditional Campanian main courses.
The street-side stage hosted two distinct evenings: Diadema – Note d'Autore on Saturday, an ensemble dedicated to Italian singer-songwriter music, with a live radio broadcast on Radio Base, and the Cantore Pellegrino with the Uhanema group on Sunday. The event, with free admission, confirmed itself as one of the most popular gastronomic events of late May in the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese area, in the province of Salerno.
The program announced by the organizers was subject to change.
