The decisive time trial stage of the Giro della Provincia Granda, in the heart of the Cuneo area
The Giro della Provincia Granda is one of the most highly regarded amateur stage races in Piedmont, organized by the ASD Centro Coordinamento Ciclismo Cuneo in collaboration with GS Passatore. Spanning six stages and nearly 300 kilometers in total, it crosses numerous municipalities in the province of Cuneo, known locally as the "Granda". Among the most anticipated stages is the individual time trial hosted in Pianfei, in the heart of the Cuneo area at the foot of the Maritime Alps.
The Pianfei time trial is an individual test of approximately 10 kilometers: each competitor starts alone at regular intervals and tackles the course without the help of a peloton. This is where physical condition and the ability to manage effort are truly measured, and it is not uncommon for this stage to rewrite the general classification before the final finish. For fans, it is a precious opportunity to see the cyclists pushing themselves to the limit along the town's roads, which are transformed into a sporting stage for the afternoon.
The Giro della Provincia Granda is more than just a competition: it is a journey through the landscapes of southwestern Piedmont, between the plains, the Langhe hills, and the first alpine slopes. The caravan passes through towns such as Cuneo, Villanova Mondovì, Sale delle Langhe, Chiusa di Pesio, Pianfei, and Mondovì, showcasing the roads and villages of the Cuneo area. Conceived and meticulously managed by patron Vittorio Bongiovanni, the event seeks a balance between classic stages and new routes every year.
For local spectators and cycling enthusiasts, the Pianfei time trial is an unmissable summer appointment, an integral part of the sporting identity of the Granda Province and Piedmont.
The 16th edition of the Giro della Provincia Granda takes place from July 22 to 26, 2026, starting from Cuneo and finishing in Mondovì, covering a total of six stages and nearly 300 kilometers.
In Pianfei, an individual time trial of 10.8 km will be held on the afternoon of Saturday, July 25, defined by the organizers as a decisive moment of the race. The complete program of the edition includes: an evening chrono-prologue in Cuneo (Wednesday, July 22), road stages in Villanova Mondovì (Thursday, July 23, 80 km) and Sale delle Langhe (Friday, July 24, 64 km), a road stage in Chiusa di Pesio and the time trial in Pianfei (Saturday, July 25), and a final stage in Mondovì (Sunday, July 26, 85 km).
The event is organized by the ASD Centro Coordinamento Ciclismo Cuneo with GS Passatore.
Pianfei is located in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont Region, with good connections to Mondovì and Cuneo. By car, it can be reached via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Mondovì exit) and the provincial roads of the Cuneo area. The reference railway station is Mondovì.
Watching the time trial along the course is free. Participation in the race is reserved for amateur cyclists registered according to the organization's regulations.
Check the updated times and route on the organization's channels and local Cuneo press before the event. Position yourself along the track in safe spots to follow the staggered starts.
