International jazz stars in the heart of Foggia
The Giordano in Jazz – Summer Edition is the summer offshoot of one of Southern Italy's most established jazz festivals. Launched in 2015, it has grown into a highly anticipated event that draws audiences well beyond the borders of Puglia. Every summer, Foggia, the capital of the Capitanata, hosts a lineup of major international names performing between the city square and the theater named after local composer Umberto Giordano, author of Andrea Chénier and a symbolic figure of the city.
The festival unfolds across two complementary venues. Piazza Cesare Battisti, in the city center, hosts open-air concerts with free admission, where music drifts through the surrounding buildings to engage citizens and passersby alike. Meanwhile, the Teatro Umberto Giordano provides a more intimate and prestigious setting for stage performances. This dual nature—popular yet sophisticated, free and ticketed—is the hallmark of the event, successfully bridging the gap between high culture and widespread public participation.
The festival is promoted by the Giordano in Jazz association in partnership with the Moody Jazz Cafè, a historic hub for live music in Foggia, with technical support from Puglia Culture. Over the years, the Summer Edition has hosted world-class artists: from former Police drummer Stewart Copeland with his orchestral project, to Grammy-winning instrumentalists and rising stars of British soul and contemporary jazz.
With the Summer Edition, Foggia and the Province of Foggia reaffirm the musical vocation of a territory that has turned jazz into a driving force of its cultural identity. The festival works in synergy with the other editions of Giordano in Jazz—the spring series in the historic center's churches and the autumn-winter season—creating a year-round calendar that establishes the Apulian city as a key jazz reference point in Southern Italy.
The 2026 summer edition celebrates the tenth anniversary of the festival with an international lineup, split between Piazza Cesare Battisti and the Teatro Umberto Giordano in Foggia. The event opens with the piano of Danilo Rea and closes with the Aaron Parks Trio, alternating free evenings in the square with ticketed stage concerts. The program is organized by the Giordano in Jazz association with the Moody Jazz Cafè and the technical support of Puglia Culture.
