Narrating places and peoples. A reportage festival between Rovereto and Mount Pasubio
Geografie sul Pasubio is a cultural event conceived and organized by the Trentino-based publishing house Keller Editore, dedicated to reportage in its most transversal and original form. Launched as a project in 2016 and held for the first time in 2017, the festival interweaves encounters with authors and journalists, mountain trekking, and mountain hut hospitality, moving between the city of Rovereto and the vast Mount Pasubio massif, which stretches between Trentino and Veneto, offering a blend of natural landscapes and deep historical layers linked to the Great War.
The festival's historical subtitle, Narrating places and peoples, summarizes its spirit: telling the stories of territories and everything that traverses or inhabits them—landscapes, cities, rivers, peoples, memories, animals, nature, society, political and historical events, and individual lives. Each edition brings together national and international reporters and writers to address hot topics in geopolitics, from travel and the environment to conflict zones and Europe's lesser-known regions.
The format is that of a widespread, walking festival. After an opening preview in Rovereto, the ascent along the Pasubio trails leads to the dialogue venues: the Rifugio Lancia and high-altitude mountain huts become open-air meeting rooms, dotted with characteristic small stone structures once used by farmers for summer haymaking. Participants can choose to live the entire multi-day experience—by signing up for the trek and staying in the huts—or simply attend individual meetings.
The festival takes place in the Municipality of Rovereto, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), and in the municipalities of the Pasubio area (Posina, Terragnolo, Trambileno, Vallarsa, Valli del Pasubio), with the support of the Autonomous Province of Trento. Meetings are free and open to the public, while the trekking with overnight stays requires registration as space is limited.
Geografie sul Pasubio thus proposes a different way of combining reflection, in-depth study, and nature, transforming the Trentino mountains into a large open-air laboratory for storytelling about the world.
The 2026 edition of Geografie sul Pasubio, scheduled from July 16 to 19, 2026, opens on Thursday, July 16, with a preview in Rovereto at the Circolo Operaio Santa Maria, where Nicolas Rodigari presents Appunti di Russia. Viaggio nella normalità di un Paese in guerra. From Friday, July 17 to Sunday, July 19, the meetings move to the mountains, between the Rifugio Lancia and the Pasubio pastures.
Announced guests include Marco Ansaldo (geopolitics of the Black Sea), Valerio Pellizzari (Iran), Jean-Arnault Dérens and Laurent Geslin (Balkans and Caucasus), Andrei Soldatov and Irina Borogan (Russian society), Virginia Mendoza (water and climate), Oliver Moody (Baltic Sea), and Dimiter Kenarov (Bulgaria). The multi-day trek, with overnight stays in huts, connects the various locations starting from the Rovereto train station.
The preview and the meeting point for the trek are in Rovereto, easily reachable by train (Rovereto railway station on the Brenner line) and by car via the A22 Brenner motorway, taking the Rovereto Sud or Nord exit. A shuttle bus connects the Rovereto station to the mountain locations.
Meetings are free and open to the public. The trekking with overnight stays in mountain huts is limited in number and requires payment, with mandatory registration via the official website.
