The Carnival celebration in Piazza Fantini, featuring costumes, entertainment, and joy
The Fossacesia Carnival is the festival that, every winter, brings life to the central Piazza Alessandro Fantini in this Abruzzo town overlooking the Trabocchi Coast, in the province of Chieti. Promoted by the municipal administration, the event fills the square with costumes, colors, and joy, offering citizens a moment of leisure and togetherness during the most carefree time of the year.
The Fossacesia Carnival is designed primarily for children and families. Between shows, entertainment, games, and activities, the square fills with children in costume and smiles. In its various editions, the festival has featured themed decorations, cotton candy, colorful Carnival puppets, and engaging entertainment, culminating in a fireworks display that provides a striking finale to the day.
In recent years, the Municipality of Fossacesia has given the Carnival a fresh look with the Moving Carnival (Carnevale in Movimento) concept: alongside the costumes, there is space for sports activities, creative workshops, and group games, promoting sport as a tool for growth, inclusion, and well-being. It is a gathering dedicated to children, teenagers, and families in a festive and participatory atmosphere.
The event is a key part of the rich calendar of activities that the Municipality of Fossacesia organizes throughout the year, from the winter season to the long summer of the Trabocchi Coast. The Carnival represents one of the moments when the community gathers in the square, blending popular tradition with a desire to be together, confirming the welcoming spirit of this village on the Adriatic side of Abruzzo.
The heart of the festival is Piazza Alessandro Fantini, in the center of Fossacesia. Its location, just a few kilometers from the sea and the stunning Trabocchi Coast, makes the Carnival an ideal opportunity to discover the area, the Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere, and the hilly and coastal landscapes that surround the town.
On February 15, 2026, from 4:30 PM, Piazza Fantini in Fossacesia hosted the 2026 edition of the Carnival, presented under the title Moving Carnival. The event, promoted by the Municipality of Fossacesia as part of the AGIA project, offered games, sports activities, creative workshops, and entertainment, involving minors and families in a festive atmosphere.
The goal of this edition was to promote sports among the youth and offer a gathering opportunity for the entire community, valuing sport as a tool for growth, inclusion, and well-being.
Fossacesia is located on the Adriatic coast of Abruzzo, in the province of Chieti. By car, it can be reached via the A14 motorway (Val di Sangro exit) and the SS16 Adriatica road. By train, the Fossacesia-Torino di Sangro station is on the Adriatic line. The festival takes place in Piazza Alessandro Fantini, in the town center.
Admission to the Carnival festival in the square is free.
The event is suitable for families and children in costume. It is recommended to check the updated dates and program on the official channels of the Municipality of Fossacesia.
