The road race through the vineyards of the Chieti area, organized by Progetto Running
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Canosa Sannita City Road Race is a historic fixture of Abruzzo running, hosted along the streets of the small town of Canosa Sannita, in the province of Chieti, in the hilly hinterland of Abruzzo. Established in 2013, the event has grown year after year to become one of the most popular events in the late-season calendar, attracting athletes from across the region and beyond.
The competitive race is held on a 3.3-kilometer city circuit to be repeated three times, for a total of about ten kilometers entirely within the town center. Alongside the competitive race, reserved for registered adults, there is a non-competitive fun run open to everyone on a single lap of the track, designed for families and walkers.
One of the event's hallmarks is its focus on children and teenagers: in the morning, races reserved for under 16s take place, divided by age categories on short courses. Each young participant receives a race pack and small prizes, in a festive atmosphere that involves the whole community.
The event is managed by ASD Progetto Running, chaired by Franco Giurastante, with the patronage of the Municipality of Canosa Sannita and under the aegis of UISP. The competitive race is valid for the Corrilabruzzo circuits, the reference calendar for regional amateur running, which awards points useful for club and individual rankings.
In recent years, the race has been moved forward from its traditional autumn slot to coincide with the grape harvest, offering participants evocative views among the active vineyards that surround the village. At the end of the race, there is the customary refreshment for everyone, often based on typical local products, making the day an occasion for sport but also for conviviality in the heart of the hilly Abruzzo region.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the Canosa Sannita City Road Race have not yet been announced by the organizers of ASD Progetto Running. Based on the latest editions, it is reasonable to expect the return of the 3.3 km city circuit to be repeated three times for the competitive race, accompanied by the non-competitive fun run and races reserved for under 16s. The event, hosted in Canosa Sannita in the province of Chieti, is expected to remain valid for the Corrilabruzzo circuits. The detailed program, times, and fees will be communicated by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Canosa Sannita can be reached by car from the A14 motorway (Ortona or Val di Sangro exit) by continuing inland; the nearest train station is in Ortona, on the Adriatic line, from where you can continue by car.
Registration is carried out via the TimingRun platform. The fee for the competitive race and the fun run is around 7-8 euros, while for the youth races it is about 3-4 euros. It is advisable to check the updated terms and amounts closer to the event.
The youth races start in the morning, followed by the adult competitive race. A final refreshment is provided for all participants.
