On May 1st, the Borgata Baraccone, a hamlet in the municipality of Castagnito (Cuneo province, Piedmont), dresses up for the Flower, Small Animal and Typical Piedmontese Products Festival. Set against the rolling hills of the Roero, in a strategic position along the SS231 road connecting Alba and Asti, the village becomes a hub for the entire region for one day: families, gardening enthusiasts, breeders, and curious visitors flock to the streets from the early hours of the morning.
Flowers, plants, and small animals
The heart of the event is the dual exhibition that gives it its name. On one hand, the ornamental and garden flower show, featuring plants, seeds, and arrangements that fill the village with vibrant hues and intense fragrances. On the other, the small animal exhibition, featuring displays and trading: rabbits (including dwarf breeds), geese, turkeys, pigeons, ducks, sheep, dogs, cats, canaries, fish, turtles, and a wide variety of songbirds and aviary birds. It is an event that blends Piedmontese rural tradition with the simple pleasure of a countryside stroll.
Typical products and gastronomy
The stalls offer a space for local crafts, agricultural tools, and above all, typical Piedmontese products: local food and wine specialties, the essential friciule (traditional savory fritters), and the distribution of Roero wines, a true pride of these hills. Bar and catering services are available to visitors throughout the day.
Music and entertainment
The festival is more than just a market: the program includes musical moments and entertainment, from the opening ceremony featuring the local marching band to performances by young students from Castagnito schools, and afternoon concerts that bring the village to life. It is a joyful, popular atmosphere that engages both adults and children.
A growing tradition
Reaching its 28th edition in 2026, the Baraccone Festival is organized by the Comitato Spontaneo Baraccone with the support of the Piedmont Regional Council and the local Pro Loco. Over the years, it has become one of the most cherished events in the Roero spring calendar, a symbol of a community that proudly continues to cultivate its rural roots.

La 28ª Rassegna dei Fiori e dei Piccoli Animali ha animato Borgata Baraccone di Castagnito il 1° maggio 2026, confermandosi uno degli appuntamenti di primavera più amati del Roero. Fin dalle prime ore del mattino la borgata si è riempita di colori e profumi, con un flusso continuo di visitatori richiamati dall'esposizione floreale, dalla mostra dei piccoli animali e dalle bancarelle di artigianato e prodotti tipici.
Tra gli animali in mostra conigli, oche, tacchini, colombi e numerosi uccelli canori; lungo le vie i banchi di prodotti enogastronomici locali, le friciule e la distribuzione dei vini del Roero. All'edizione hanno preso parte diverse autorità, tra cui il Presidente della Regione Piemonte Alberto Cirio, il consigliere provinciale Simone Manzone, i sindaci del territorio e il Consiglio Comunale dei Ragazzi.

Il 1° maggio 2026 la Borgata Baraccone ha proposto, dal mattino al pomeriggio, la consueta formula della rassegna:
- Mattino — Apertura della manifestazione, esposizione dei fiori ornamentali e da giardino e mostra dei piccoli animali (esposizione e scambio).
- Bancarelle di artigianato, attrezzature agricole e prodotti tipici piemontesi.
- Tutto il giorno — Distribuzione dei vini del Roero, friciule e servizio bar e ristoro; momenti musicali e di intrattenimento.
