A culinary journey through the traditional products of the Aventino Valley in Casoli
Flavours of the Aventino & Surroundings is the food and wine evening that brings the historic center of Casoli, in the province of Chieti, to life in the heart of Abruzzo. For one summer evening, the town's main street transforms into a true culinary trail: stalls set up among the alleys and squares offer traditional products from Casoli and neighboring towns, guiding visitors through a journey of authentic flavors, traditions, and local specialties. Cured meats, cheeses, and dishes from the rural Chieti cuisine tell the story of the Aventino Valley's gastronomic identity, offering visitors a simple and genuine experience.
The common thread of the event is the region's food and wine excellence. Casoli is situated on the right bank of the Aventino River, at the foot of the Maiella massif, in a rural area rich in farming and pastoral traditions. The festival showcases producers from the valley and nearby towns, who are the stars of a tasting journey that highlights the short supply chain and the bond between food and landscape. It is an opportunity to rediscover dishes and flavors linked to the local heritage in a festive and family-friendly atmosphere.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Casulae of Casoli APS, an association founded at the end of 2024 to promote the historical, cultural, and natural heritage of the municipality. From the Ducal Castle to the charm of the historic center, and the surrounding natural landscapes and local traditions, the Pro Loco works to showcase every corner of the territory: Flavours of the Aventino is one of its initiatives dedicated to conviviality and the promotion of Abruzzo's cuisine.
Ranked among the most picturesque villages in the Chieti hinterland, Casoli is dominated by the Ducal Castle and the church of Santa Reparata, the town's patron saint. Surrounded by the waters of Lake Sant'Angelo and the Serranella nature reserve, the village provides an ideal setting for an outdoor evening of good food and village atmosphere. The event is part of the summer calendar that enlivens Casoli and the Aventino Valley in Abruzzo.
