The summer market of taste and craftsmanship in Piazza Nives, Selva di Val Gardena
The Flavors and Traditions Market is one of the highlights of the summer in Selva di Val Gardena (Wolkenstein in Gröden), a municipality in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adige. Also known by its Ladin name "Marcià dala Poza", the market enlivens the central Piazza Nives every Wednesday afternoon, the pedestrian heart of the village at the foot of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.
The market brings together two souls of the Val Gardena region: on one hand, typical gastronomy, with stalls where you can taste and purchase regional South Tyrolean specialties; on the other, local craftsmanship, a tradition deeply rooted in Val Gardena and world-renowned, especially for wood carving. While strolling among the exhibitors, residents and tourists can discover genuine products and artisanal creations that reflect the Ladin culture and identity of the valley.
Set in one of the most evocative squares in Val Gardena, with the walls of the Sassolungo and the Sella group as a backdrop, the market is an opportunity to experience the village during the afternoon hours, between one walk and another. It takes place in the height of the summer season, when Selva is a destination for hikers, mountain enthusiasts, and families on vacation. Admission is free, and the event is designed for audiences of all ages, in a typically South Tyrolean setting where tradition, flavors, and the Dolomite landscape meet.
Together with Ortisei and Santa Cristina, Selva is one of the three villages of Val Gardena, a Ladin-speaking valley internationally famous for alpine tourism and the art of wood carving. Events like this help keep local traditions alive and promote regional products, offering visitors an authentic glimpse into the culture of Val Gardena.
In the summer of 2026, the Flavors and Traditions Market returns to Piazza Nives in Selva di Val Gardena with five Wednesday afternoon sessions: July 15, 22, and 29, and August 5 and 12, 2026, from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Each day, the stalls will offer typical products and regional South Tyrolean specialties, alongside artisanal creations from Val Gardena. Admission is free.
