The Fitalese Carnival is the signature celebration of San Salvatore di Fitalia, a village nestled in the Nebrodi mountains in the northeastern part of Sicily, Province of Messina. For several days between late February and early March, the streets and squares of the historic center fill with confetti, costumes, and joy, creating one of the most popular events on the local calendar. It is a deeply communal festival, born from grassroots efforts and involving the entire village.

A Community Celebration

The organization of the Fitalese Carnival is entrusted to the Pro Loco of San Salvatore di Fitalia, alongside a group of private citizens and the support of Civil Service volunteers. The event is more than just a show; it is a moment of gathering that unites the different generations of the village, from schools to the parish, and from local associations to the town's businesses. This collective spirit is the true heart of the festival, keeping a popular tradition rooted in the Nebrodi territory alive.

Parades, Costumes, and Entertainment

The program of the Fitalese Carnival spans several days. It kicks off on Fat Thursday, dedicated to the "School Carnival" with activities aimed at children. In the following days, the village hosts the Children's Carnival, featuring games, entertainment, and creative workshops organized by the parish, and most importantly, the much-anticipated costume group parades that wind through the town accompanied by music and entertainment. The evenings are enlivened by events organized by local venues, completing the festive atmosphere.
