The FIS Telemark World Cup in the Brenta Dolomites
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The FIS Telemark World Cup Pinzolo is the Italian leg of the premier international telemark skiing circuit, held annually in December in Pinzolo, Val Rendena, in the heart of the Trentino region. The races take place within the Campiglio Dolomiti di Brenta Ski Area, on the renowned Cioca 2 slope of Doss del Sabion, at an altitude of about 2,000 meters, set against the spectacular backdrop of the Brenta Dolomites' peaks.
Telemark is the oldest discipline of alpine skiing: it is performed with a free heel, requiring the skier to bend the knee in a characteristic lunge at every turn. In the World Cup, the specialty showcased in Pinzolo is the sprint: a technical course combining turns, a jump, a skating section, and a cross-country loop, creating a unique blend of elegance, power, and endurance. Over the two days, four heats are held, all counting toward the overall standings.
Pinzolo welcomes athletes from about a dozen nations: from Italy to Norway—the home of telemark—as well as France, Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland, Sweden, the United States, and Canada. The Italian team features notable names such as South Tyrolean Raphael Mahlknecht and Giacomo Bormolini from Livigno. The races are part of the official FIS World Cup calendar, putting the Municipality of Pinzolo and Val Rendena in the international winter sports spotlight.
The event is more than just sport: alongside the races, the Telemark & Food Experience offers a program of high-altitude events dedicated to local products, with gatherings at Malga Cioca, group ski runs, convivial lunches, and tastings. In the center of Pinzolo, the athlete parade, opening ceremony, and award presentations take place with the participation of the local community.
Access to the races is free for the public: the finish area is located just a few meters from the Tulot gondola lift and can be reached on foot or on skis. The event is organized by the Sci Club Agonistica Campiglio Val Rendena in collaboration with Funivie Pinzolo, the Madonna di Campiglio Tourism Board, the Municipality of Pinzolo, and the local Pro Loco. As part of the Trentino-Alto Adige winter event calendar, the FIS Telemark World Cup in Pinzolo is a unique opportunity to discover a fascinating and lesser-known discipline in one of the most beloved ski resorts in the Alps.
At the time of writing, the official calendar for the 2026 edition of the FIS Telemark World Cup Pinzolo has not yet been published. The Italian stage of the Telemark World Cup traditionally takes place in December on the Cioca 2 slope of Doss del Sabion, in Val Rendena. Information regarding dates, the program, and athletes will be updated as soon as they are announced by the organizers.
Pinzolo can be reached by car from Val Rendena (A22 motorway exit at Trento Nord or San Michele all'Adige, then follow the SS237 del Caffaro). The races take place at high altitude on Doss del Sabion: the finish area is located a few meters from the Tulot gondola and can be reached on foot or on skis.
Access to the races is free for the public.
