Markets, workshops, and performances between the village and the Castello della Torre
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of Advent, the Municipality of Mezzolombardo (Autonomous Province of Trento) ignites The Magic of Christmas, a widespread event that brings the streets, squares, and most beautiful corners of the village to life. It is not just a simple market, but an entire village transformed into a space for meeting, creativity, and sharing: from the illuminated Castello della Torre to the Liston on Corso Mazzini, and from Piazza delle Erbe to the inter-municipal library, every corner of the historic center hosts festive moments designed for families.
The core of the event is the Christmas markets with food stalls, open on the weekends leading up to Christmas. Stalls featuring artisans and hobbyists stand alongside gastronomic booths run by local associations, where you can taste local specialties, mulled wine, chestnuts, and traditional sweets. The most scenic setting is the Castello della Torre, which remains open until evening with light projections, crafts, and indoor workshops.
The program combines culture and entertainment: creative workshops for little ones (pop-up cards, ornaments, face painting), snacks with Santa Claus, guided tours of the historic center, wood carving demonstrations, Christmas concerts at the Civic Hall, in Piazza delle Erbe, and at the Teatro San Pietro, as well as theatrical performances and storytelling for children throughout the period.
The festival is rooted in Trentino folk traditions: it symbolically opens with the Strozega dei badoni di San Nicolò, the noisy parade that announces the saint's arrival on December 5th, and closes at Epiphany with the highly anticipated arrival of the Befana. In between, there is a rich calendar involving the Pro Loco, local associations, and volunteers of Mezzolombardo, the heart of the Piana Rotaliana in Trentino-Alto Adige, a land also famous for its Teroldego wine.
The Christmas event in Mezzolombardo, in the Piana Rotaliana in Trentino, returns every year during Advent with artisanal markets, workshops for children, concerts, and performances between the historic center and the Castello della Torre.
At the moment, the dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced. Based on previous editions, the event takes place on the weekends of December with markets open from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM and closing at Epiphany. The full calendar will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Mezzolombardo is located in the Piana Rotaliana, about 15 km north of Trento. By car: A22 Brennero motorway, exit at San Michele all'Adige/Mezzocorona, then take the SS12. By train: the Mezzocorona-Mezzolombardo station (Trento-Bolzano line) is just a few minutes away, also connected by the Trento-Malé railway.
Markets are open on December weekends from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM; the Castello della Torre remains open until 10:00 PM.
Admission to the event is free. Some children's workshops require a fee and prior booking (Inter-municipal library, [email protected]).
