The festival celebrating the first fig of the season in Pezze di Greco
The Fiorone Festival is one of the most beloved gastronomic events of the summer in Pezze di Greco, a village in the municipality of Fasano, in the province of Brindisi. At the heart of the celebration is the fiorone, the first fig to ripen in early June: a large, sweet, and delicate fruit that symbolizes the farming tradition of this corner of Puglia, nestled between the Valle d'Itria and the coast of Torre Canne.
The event, organized by the Pro Loco Ulivo Vivo in collaboration with local associations and with the support of the Fasano municipal administration and the GAL of the Valle d'Itria, transforms Piazza XX Settembre into a vibrant space for gathering, tasting, and music.
One of the most anticipated moments is the presentation of the Franco Semeraro Prize, named after the festival's founder and awarded to the producer who presents the heaviest fiorone. Local farmers bring their finest fruits to the square, sparking a competition that blends rural pride with community spirit: a way to celebrate the region's biodiversity and agricultural excellence.
The festival is, above all, a journey through flavors. The food and wine stalls offer specialties featuring the fiorone and traditional Puglian cuisine, including:
All this is accompanied by the conviviality typical of Puglian village festivals, where food becomes an opportunity for storytelling and identity.
The evening concludes with the music of the folk group Terraross, whose repertoire ranges from pizzica to tarantella and tammurriate. The rhythms of the Salento and Puglian tradition draw the audience into dancing and singing under the stars, giving the square the authentic atmosphere of the festivals of yesteryear.
For over twenty years, the Fiorone Festival has been a staple of the summer calendar in Pezze di Greco, attracting both residents and visitors. It is the ideal opportunity to discover an agricultural product little known outside of Puglia and to experience an evening dedicated to tradition in one of the most characteristic villages in the Fasano area.
The 2026 edition took place on Saturday, June 6 in Piazza XX Settembre in Pezze di Greco, a village of Fasano (BR). The evening opened at 6:00 PM with the Festival Committee press conference and a conference by the GAL of the Valle d'Itria dedicated to local initiatives and opportunities.
The highlight was the presentation of the Franco Semeraro Prize to the producer with the heaviest fiorone. The food stalls offered panzerotti (including the special version with mozzarella, capocollo, and fiorone), pettole, and sausage sandwiches, alongside the stall dedicated to fioroni. From 9:30 PM, the Terraross group entertained the square with folk dances and music.
Pezze di Greco is a village in Fasano (BR), accessible from the SS16 Adriatica and SS379 roads. The nearest train station is Fasano, on the Adriatic line; from there, you can continue by car or local transport connections.
Admission to the festival is free. Tastings at the food and wine stalls are paid for individually, with the affordable prices typical of village festivals.
The event takes place in the evening in Piazza XX Settembre: we recommend arriving a little early to park in the town center streets and enjoy the stalls and tastings at your leisure.
