Celebrating the grape harvest in the woods of Selva: decorated floats, traditional treading, and grape focaccia
Every year, in mid-September, Selva di Fasano — the enchanting hillside hamlet of the Municipality of Fasano, in the province of Brindisi, famous as a "climatic station" overlooking the Itria Valley — transforms into the stage for one of its most heartfelt events: the Grape Festival. Organized by the Pro Selva Association, the event evokes the ancient rituals of the harvest and the rural culture of the Murgia hills, in an afternoon that combines folklore, gastronomy, and local heritage.
The heart of the festival is the parade of agricultural vehicles decorated with grape clusters and vine shoots, which travels along Viale Toledo to the open space outside the Casina Municipale. Tractors, carts, and the characteristic decorated Apecar vehicles advance among the crowd, led by the drums of folk groups and accompanied by performers in traditional costumes and dancers who mark the rhythm of the pizzica, the musical soul of Puglia. It is a genuine setting where the entire town participates and rediscovers the gestures of the harvest.
Along the route, there is space for the exhibition of various grape varieties of the territory and the evocative demonstration of grape treading, with children crushing the grapes barefoot just as it was done in the past. To complete the festival, there are tastings of typical dishes and rural products, with the absolute star of the local table: the grape focaccia, sweet and fragrant, a delicious symbol of this season. There is no shortage of music, dance performances, and entertainment moments that enliven the late afternoon and evening.
The Grape Festival is also an opportunity to discover Selva di Fasano, a village immersed in greenery among holm oaks and pines, known for the evocative Minareto, the Botanical Garden, and the panoramas that stretch from the hills to the Adriatic Sea. Located a few kilometers from the center of Fasano and the archaeological excavations of Egnazia, Selva represents one of the most beloved places in Puglia for those looking for coolness, nature, and traditions. The event, with free admission and under the patronage of the Municipality of Fasano, ideally closes the Selva summer and opens up to autumn atmospheres.
The Grape Festival returns to Selva di Fasano on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 5:00 PM, along Viale Toledo and in the outdoor area of the Casina Municipale. The event — included in the Selva Estate 2026 program of the Pro Selva Association — represents the fifteenth edition of the event and confirms its role as the closing event of the summer on the Fasano hills.
As per tradition, the day revolves around the parade of agricultural vehicles and Apecar vehicles decorated with vine shoots, the demonstration of grape treading, folk dances, and tastings of typical products, with the grape focaccia as the star. Admission is free.
The date for the 2026 edition is confirmed (Sunday, September 20, 2026, 5:00 PM, Viale Toledo), while the detailed program has not yet been published by the Pro Selva Association.
