The San Martino Festival in Polignano a Mare
The San Martino Festival is an autumn event that, every year around November 11th, transforms Piazza Aldo Moro into the festive living room of Polignano a Mare, in the Province of Bari, Apulia. The festival was created to renew one of the most deep-rooted traditions of Apulian peasant culture: the tasting of new wine, the first wine of the season, accompanied by panzerotti prepared according to the classic San Martino recipe.
New wine and autumn flavors
The gastronomic heart of the festival is dedicated to the specialties of the cold season. Selected local wineries present their new wines, while the air in the square fills with the aroma of freshly fried panzerotti, pettole, chestnuts, and other autumn delicacies. The famous popular proverb "at San Martino every must becomes wine" serves as the guiding theme: the community gathers to toast and share the fruits of the harvest in an atmosphere of authentic village conviviality.
Music, shows, and atmosphere
Alongside the tastings, the evening is enlivened by Apulian folk music, street performances, buskers, dance shows, and DJ sets that keep the crowd entertained until late at night. The organizers' stated goal is to strengthen the bond between the area and this tradition, offering visitors an immersion into local customs in one of the most charming squares in the village, just a short walk from the historic center and the sea.
A festival for the community
The event is organized by the Associazione Imprenditori Polignanesi (AIP), which brings together the city's commercial and business activities, with the patronage of Puglia Promozione and the Municipality of Polignano a Mare. The initiative is part of a broader project aimed at de-seasonalizing tourism and animating the city even in the months outside of summer, proving that Polignano is not just a seaside destination but a vibrant village all year round. The first edition in 2024 drew thousands of people to the square, confirming San Martino as one of the most anticipated autumn events on the Polignano calendar.

The 2026 edition of the San Martino Festival in Polignano a Mare has not yet been officially announced. Based on previous editions, the event is traditionally linked to the feast of Saint Martin on November 11th and takes place in Piazza Aldo Moro with tastings of new wine, panzerotti, pettole, and chestnuts, accompanied by music and shows. Location
Piazza Aldo Moro, in the center of Polignano a Mare (BA). The square is about a 6-minute walk from the Polignano a Mare train station.
How to get there
By train: The Polignano a Mare station is on the Adriatic line (Bari-Lecce), with frequent connections from Bari Centrale in about 30 minutes.
By car: Take the Polignano a Mare exit from the SS16 Adriatica; on festival evenings, it is recommended to use the peripheral parking lots and walk to the center.

Free entry to the square; tastings of new wine, panzerotti, and local products are available for purchase at the stands.
