Two days of practical philosophy in the squares of Bompietro, in the Madonie mountains
Nestled in the Madonie mountains, in the heart of the Palermo province, the small village of Bompietro hosts Filosofia di Strada, a festival that brings philosophical thought out of the classroom and into daily life. The concept is simple yet radical: philosophy is not just an academic discipline confined to books, but an interrogative, dialogical, and reflective posture—a way of being-in-the-world that touches upon art, theology, politics, and our own existence.
The event is itinerant: each edition selects a new town that becomes the capital of practical philosophy for a weekend. Before reaching Bompietro, the festival visited numerous symbolic villages and locations across Sicily and the Italian peninsula, from Amandola to Favignana, from Castellammare del Golfo to Lercara Friddi, including Polizzi Generosa, Gibilrossa, and the archaeological site of Segesta. This nomadic nature is an integral part of the project: bringing philosophy to places where it rarely reaches, specifically small inland Sicilian towns, and turning it into a gathering point for the entire community.
The program alternates between lectures by philosophers and scholars, round tables, philosophical walks in nature, and creative workshops in writing and painting. Meetings take place outdoors and in communal spaces, from courtyards to the Municipal Auditorium and the Town Park, in an informal atmosphere that invites everyone to participate. Convivial moments, such as shared lunches and social dinners, strengthen the community spirit, in line with the philosophy of counseling and practice promoted by the organizers.
The festival is promoted by the "Casa di Lucia" APS Library as part of the Philosophy for Life project, a network of philosophers and enthusiasts who have been animating philosophical debate applied to everyday life for years. Participation is designed to be accessible to all, with a symbolic contribution and free entry for residents of the Municipality of Bompietro.
For those who love to walk, reflect, and engage in discussion away from the city's frantic pace, Filosofia di Strada is an intense and original experience, blending the charm of the Madonie villages with the depth of philosophical thought.
The 2026 edition of Filosofia di Strada brought a dense calendar of philosophical appointments to Bompietro, in the heart of the Madonie, spread across the Municipal Auditorium, the squares, and the Town Park. The common thread was philosophy as an interrogative, dialogical, and reflective posture, capable of traversing art, theology, and politics.
Speakers and guests of the edition included Giorgio Gagliano, Maurizio Pallante, Maria D'Asaro, Augusto Cavadi, Annamaria Pensato, Giovanna Bongiorno, and Lorenzo Raspanti. Alongside the intellectual meetings, the program included creative writing and painting workshops, a philosophical walk, and an evening concert, in a convivial atmosphere marked by shared lunches and a social dinner.
The conference consisted of twelve sessions in total, including lectures and a round table, with each intervention lasting approximately one and a half hours.
Bompietro (PA), in the Madonie district. Meetings are held at the Municipal Auditorium, in the squares of the historic center, and at the Town Park.
To access all events, simply purchase a pass for 5.00 euros, valid for the entire festival. Citizens currently residing in Bompietro are exempt from purchasing a pass and can enter for free by showing an ID card. Convivial moments (social dinner and lunches) require a separate contribution.
Bompietro can be reached by car from the A19 Palermo-Catania motorway (exit Tre Monzelli or Irosa) by following the signs for the Madonie. We recommend booking accommodation in advance, given the village's limited capacity.
