Roast bull, wine and tradition on the Varmo river in Camino al Tagliamento
In Camino al Tagliamento, in the province of Udine, there is a festival that spans generations: the Fieste di Cjamin dal Toro e dal Vin, one of the oldest and most recognizable events in Alto Friuli. Spit-roasted bull, wine, music, theatre, and tradition intertwine over several weekends, making the festival a landmark of the Friulian spring calendar.
The signature dish is the spit-roasted bull, cooked according to traditional methods passed down from ancient recipes, accompanied by wines from local wineries and the genuine flavours of Friulian cuisine. The festival takes place at the oratory facility in Camino, equipped to comfortably host the many guests who visit the town each year.
Every evening, the program features live music and dancing, with orchestras and bands such as I Caramel and Straballo Band, as well as rock concerts and cover bands. Among the most popular events is the horizontal greased pole competition on the Varmo river, a traditional game that draws crowds and fun. The programme is rounded out by card tournaments, vintage car rallies, theatre, and entertainment for children.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Camino al Tagliamento, the festival is much more than a food festival: it is a time when the entire community comes together, through volunteering, tradition, and conviviality. An event that, edition after edition, preserves and promotes the identity of this corner of Friuli overlooking the Tagliamento.
The 78th edition of the Fieste di Cjamin dal Toro e dal Vin is spread over several days between late May and early June 2026: May 30-31, June 1-2, and June 5-7. Organized by the Pro Loco of Camino al Tagliamento at the oratory facility, it features spit-roasted bull, local wines, music, theatre, and traditional games.
The event takes place in three phases: May 30-31, June 1-2, and June 5-7, 2026, at the oratory in Camino al Tagliamento.
Times, concerts, and menus may vary; it is advisable to consult the Pro Loco page or the website caminoaltagliamento.org closer to the event.
