The great autumn fair of Casalmaggiore between cotechino and pumpkin tortelli
For generations, the Fiera di San Carlo has been the most cherished autumn event in Casalmaggiore, in the Province of Cremona. For four days, at the beginning of November, Piazza Garibaldi and the city streets are filled with stalls, stands, amusement park attractions, and cultural initiatives, in a grand fair that blends commerce, tradition, and conviviality.
The gastronomic heart of the event is the Sagra del Cotechino e del Blisgòn, established in 1997 and organized by the Pro Loco (local tourism board). The stars are two symbols of local cuisine: cotechino, a traditional cured pork sausage, and blisgòn, the Casalmaggiore pumpkin tortelli, closed in a candy shape, which gives the sagra its name. The food stands offer traditional dishes that tell the culinary identity of the lower Cremona area.
Alongside gastronomy, the fair offers street food, a craft market, attractions for all ages, guided tours, and cultural initiatives spread across various city spaces. It is an event that merges the popular and festive dimension of the amusement park in Piazza Garibaldi with offerings that highlight the historical and artistic heritage of Casalmaggiore.
Organized by the Municipality of Casalmaggiore together with the Pro Loco, the Fiera di San Carlo represents one of the city's defining events. In recent years, the sagra has also received recognition for its focus on sustainability, confirming itself not only as a celebration of taste but as a community moment that links the past and present of the Casalmaggiore territory.
For 2026, the Fiera di San Carlo and the Sagra del Cotechino e del Blisgòn confirm their placement in early November, around the feast day of San Carlo. Following the schedule of recent editions, the festival spans four days (approximately November 1-4), with lunch and dinner served at the food stands and events taking place throughout the city.
The sagra of cotechino and blisgòn, eagerly awaited for its twenty-second edition, focuses on the traditional dishes of Casalmaggiore, while the fair enlivens Piazza Garibaldi with a market, street food, crafts, and amusement park attractions. The precise 2026 program, including times and cultural events, will be communicated by the Pro Loco and the Municipality closer to the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the Pro Loco of Casalmaggiore and the Municipality in the weeks leading up to the fair. Based on recent editions, the usual structure includes:
Piazza Garibaldi and the historic center of Casalmaggiore (CR), on the days around San Carlo (early November). Casalmaggiore is reachable by car via the SS343 Asolana and by train on the Parma-Brescia line.
Free entry to the fair and market. The sagra's food stands are paid according to the menu offered.
