Suzzara's historic festival, featuring cappelletti, music, and tradition
The Sagra del Crocifisso is the historic festival of Suzzara, in the Province of Mantua, whose origins date back to 1777. Every year, during the third week of September, Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi becomes the focal point of a week of celebration that blends devotion, gastronomy, and entertainment, drawing the entire city and surrounding towns.
The absolute star is Mantuan cuisine: the food stall in the square serves the famous cappelletti and traditional dishes, accompanied by the conviviality that has always characterised the festival. A packed events calendar unfolds around good food, from fairground rides for the little ones to concerts for adults.
The Sagra del Crocifisso is famous for its special events: the Notte Rosa, with evening shopping, dancing, ice skating, and music; Suzzara Comix, dedicated to comics and cosplay; and the music evenings, ranging from rock to Latin dances, which liven up the centre until late at night. Organised by the Pro Loco Cittร di Suzzara (local tourism association), the festival is much more than a popular celebration: it is the very identity of the city, an eagerly awaited event that renews the bond between Suzzara and its history every year.
The Sagra del Crocifisso returns to Suzzara from 17 to 23 September 2026 in Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi. The food stall offers cappelletti and traditional Mantuan cuisine, while fairground rides and shows liven up the week of celebration.
Among the highlights are the Notte Rosa on Saturday โ with evening shopping, dancing, ice skating, and music โ the Suzzara Comix day dedicated to comics and cosplay, and the Night of the Guitars, a rock evening created by Alex Guidetti from the Scuola di Musica Moderna. The full programme, organised by Pro Loco Cittร di Suzzara, will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event.
The detailed programme with dates and times for individual events will be published by the Pro Loco in the weeks before the festival.
