Suzzara's Halloween festival, between pumpkins and haunted tractors
The Notte delle Lumere is the event with which Suzzara, in the Province of Mantua, celebrates Halloween. Organized by the Pro Loco Cittร di Suzzara, it fills Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi with lights, shadows, entertainment, and music, bringing to life an evening that blends the tradition of illuminated pumpkins โ the "lumere" โ with the thrill of costumes and scares.
The distinctive feature of the festival is the gathering of "haunted tractors": agricultural vehicles decorated with a horror theme that parade through the town center streets, in a typically rural combination of the Bassa region's farming world and the Halloween imagination. Upon the parade's return, awards are given for the renowned "Trofeo Paura", which recognizes the most frightening costumes and decorations.
The evening is also designed for the little ones, with games and prize-winning entertainment, while the food stand offers festive specialties โ fried gnocco, fried pumpkin, gnocco with cured meats โ also available for takeaway. To close the night, a horror film screening in the town's cinema. Participation is all about fun: scary costumes are strictly mandatory.
The Notte delle Lumere returns to scare in Suzzara on Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi, from 4:00 PM to 10:50 PM. Organized by Pro Loco Cittร di Suzzara, it offers an evening of entertainment, music, and gastronomic specialties.
The program includes games and entertainment for children and the opening of the food stand at 5:00 PM, the gathering of haunted tractors at 5:30 PM, the parade at 6:00 PM, and the awards ceremony for the "Trofeo Paura" at 7:00 PM. From 7:30 PM onwards, music, aperitifs, and a food stand with takeaway options. Among the specialties: fried gnocco, fried pumpkin, and the new black fried gnocco with Nutella.
