The flavours of tradition in Caglio

The Festival of Pizzoccheri and Gnocco Fritto is one of the most beloved summer gastronomic festivals in Caglio, a village in the Larian Triangle in the province of Como. Organized by Pro Caglio, a very active association that manages dozens of events a year, it is an event that attracts good food enthusiasts from all over the area.

The stars are pizzoccheri, the famous dish from the nearby Valtellina prepared according to the original recipe with buckwheat, potatoes, savoy cabbage, and cheese, and gnocco fritto, another specialty that gives the festival its name. The stalls also offer other Lombard specialties — salamelle, ribs, and other grilled dishes — and homemade artisanal desserts, accompanied by local wines.

Festival in the arena

The festival takes place in the Caglio arena, which on peak evenings fills with people, in a convivial and festive atmosphere. Alongside the food, the program includes live music, craft and local product markets, entertainment for children with games and workshops, as well as the traditional charity raffle.
