The Donkey Festival - Fera de Barni is an autumn event that takes place in Barni, a village in the Larian Triangle in the province of Como. The event combines the donkey exhibition-competition with the historic Fera de Barni and the chestnut festival, in a celebration that honors the town's connection to the mountains and its farming traditions.
Exhibition-Competition, Markets, and Crafts
The heart of the day is the donkey exhibition in the Piana di Barni, featuring animal presentations, voting, and awards. Surrounding this are craft demonstrations, such as those of a farrier, tractor displays, strolling accordionists, and agricultural and craft markets along the village streets.
Flavors and Activities for Families
There are also activities for children – face painting, bouncy castles, wooden games, workshops, and moments of grooming with the donkeys – and food stalls offering polenta and zola, polenta and braised meat, roasted chestnuts, and street food. The event is organized by CulturaBarni, the Pro Loco Barni, and the Gruppo Alpini Barni, with the patronage of the Municipality.

The Donkey Festival 2026
For 2026, the Donkey Festival - Fera de Barni is expected in autumn, following the tradition of holding it on the last Sunday of October, in the Piana di Barni. This will be the 7th edition of the event.
The established format is confirmed: the donkey exhibition-competition with animal presentations and awards, the chestnut festival, craft demonstrations, markets along the village streets, family activities, and food stalls with traditional Larian dishes. The detailed schedule will be published by the organizers closer to the date.
