Caglio's autumn festival among roasted chestnuts and historic chestnut groves
The Castagnata di Caglio is the autumn festival of the village of Caglio, in the province of Como, in the heart of the Triangolo Lariano. Organized by Pro Caglio — a very active association that manages about forty events a year — it is one of the most beloved events of the season, capable of combining gastronomic tradition with an experience in nature.
The chestnut festival takes place over two Sundays, opening at noon: the stars are the roasted chestnuts (caldarroste), accompanied by grilled food, typical dishes, and seasonal desserts. The days are enlivened by musical entertainment, games, and animation, in a festive atmosphere that attracts residents and visitors from nearby towns.
An element that makes the Caglio Chestnut Festival special is the guided walk through the historic chestnut groves of the area: an easy route, in the afternoon, dedicated to the history of local chestnut trees, their relationship with the community and the traditional mountain economy, enriched with anecdotes and curiosities about the fruit. A way to discover the natural and cultural heritage of the village.
The Castagnata is much more than a local festival: it is the celebration of the ancient bond between Caglio and its chestnut groves, a symbol of the village's rural and mountain identity. With free admission, the festival combines taste, nature, and conviviality, confirming itself as one of the most authentic autumn events in the Triangolo Lariano.
The 2026 edition of the Caglio Chestnut Festival will take place, as is tradition, over two Sundays between late September and early October, organized by Pro Caglio. The program includes roasted chestnuts, grilled food, and typical dishes, musical entertainment, games, and animation, as well as the scenic guided walk in the historic chestnut groves of the area (in the afternoon), dedicated to the history of local chestnut trees. The precise dates will be published by Pro Caglio in the weeks preceding the event. Free admission.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by Pro Caglio closer to the event. Based on previous editions, the festival typically offers:
