Festinborgo is much more than just a food festival: it is the signature event of Montecchio, a tiny village overlooking the hills of the Valdera, a hamlet of the municipality of Peccioli, in the Province of Pisa, in the heart of Tuscany. For one night, usually a Saturday in late June, the narrow streets of the village light up and fill with tables, aromas, and chatter: the entire village becomes an open-air dining room, where residents and visitors dine while strolling from one small square to another.

Traditional cuisine

The heart of Festinborgo is the wandering dinner, featuring dishes prepared according to recipes passed down through generations by the women of Montecchio. Among the specialties available at the various distribution points:

• cabbage soup, a humble yet flavorful traditional peasant dish;
• pasta alla Montecchiese, the village's signature recipe;
• pasta al Becco;
• grilled meat and salt cod;
• tripe and other traditional main courses.

To finish, the essential "Montecchiese" liqueur, an exclusive product of the Circolo l'Acacia, whose recipe is jealously guarded by the association's leaders.

The local currency: the "Becco"

One of the most curious features of the festival is its internal currency: during Festinborgo, you pay in "Becco", the local tender that can be exchanged at designated points set up throughout the village. A detail that makes the experience even more convivial and immersive.

Music, stars, and atmosphere

The evening is accompanied by live music and, late at night, a DJ set that keeps the village lively until the early hours. There is also space for the sky: the event hosts astronomical observation sessions curated by the Astrofili Pisani, allowing you to admire the stars far from city lights. The festival is completed by stalls featuring artisanal and local products.
