San Martino, patron saint of Rive d'Arcano

In the hilly countryside north of Udine, where the vineyards of Friuli meet the first pre-Alpine slopes, the municipality of Rive d'Arcano celebrates its patron saint every year: Saint Martin of Tours. The recurrence, set for November 11th by the liturgical calendar, is one of the most heartfelt moments of the year for the community, linked, as is the Friulian tradition, to the rites of harvest and thanksgiving for the fruits of the earth.

The medieval Pieve di San Martino

The heart of the festival is the evocative Pieve di San Martino, an ancient parish church dedicated to the saint bishop, one of the most significant religious testimonies of the territory. Around this place of faith and history, the faithful gather for the patronal celebration, in a solemn atmosphere deeply rooted in local tradition.

The Festa del Ringraziamento (Thanksgiving Festival)

The Festa del Ringraziamento is closely linked to the patronal festival, held in mid-November right at the Pieve. Organized by the dairies of Rive d'Arcano and Rodeano in collaboration with the parish of San Martino Vescovo and with the support of the Municipality, it is a moment that celebrates the agricultural and dairy vocation of the town, in which the community gives thanks for the work of the fields and stables, according to a custom dear to the entire Friulian peasant culture.

Between faith, land, and castle

The San Martino festival is also an opportunity to discover Rive d'Arcano and its most famous jewel, the Castello di Arcano, one of the best-preserved medieval fortresses in Friuli. Devotion, peasant tradition, and historical heritage intertwine in a recurrence that tells the authentic soul of this corner of the Udine foothills.
