Pilgrimage and festival on the summit of Mount San Simeone
In Bordano, a municipality in the Val del Lago in the province of Udine, there is a sagra (festival) held in a truly special place: the summit of Monte San Simeone. Every first Sunday of September, the community climbs to the "Valdisore" plateau, at an altitude of 1,215 meters, where a small church, built in 1338, stands – one of the highest in all of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The heart of the Sagra di San Simeone is the votive pilgrimage on foot to the summit, a tradition that is renewed year after year. At 11:00 AM, the Holy Mass is celebrated at the small mountain church, a moment of reflection in a panorama that stretches across the Julian Prealps and Lake Cavazzo.
Once the celebration is over, the festival comes alive: from 12:00 PM, the stands open with pasta and barbecued dishes cooked on-site, to refresh the pilgrims and the many hikers who have come for the occasion. A convivial moment that combines the religious dimension with that of a village festival, in full Friulian tradition.
The festival is organized by the Pro Loco Bordano-Interneppo in collaboration with the Parish of Bordano and with the patronage of the Municipality. An event that is part of the calendar of activities animating this corner of the mountains, amidst nature, hiking, and traditions, just a stone's throw from the famous Butterfly House.
For 2026, the Sagra di San Simeone is expected on the usual date of the first Sunday of September, on the summit of Monte San Simeone in Bordano. The festival renews the votive pilgrimage to the small mountain church and the celebration of Holy Mass at 11:00 AM.
After the service, from 12:00 PM, the stands open with pasta and barbecued dishes cooked on-site. An event that combines faith, tradition, and love for the mountains, organized by Pro Loco Bordano-Interneppo with the Parish.
The 2026 program, with the definitive date, will be published by Pro Loco Bordano-Interneppo in the weeks prior. The traditional structure includes:
