When autumn arrives, the hamlet of Pieris, in San Canzian d'Isonzo, is tinged with the season's colours for the Festa della Zucca (Pumpkin Festival). Organised by the Pro Loco San Canzian with the support of the Municipality, the event enlivens Piazza Garibaldi with food stalls, entertainment, and a festive atmosphere that draws families and curious visitors from all over the Isontino area.
Autumn flavours
The star of the show is, of course, the pumpkin, featured in many recipes starting with pumpkin gnocchi, alongside the ever-popular roasted chestnuts, hot sandwiches, Ribolla wine, and seasonal desserts. The Pro Loco's stalls offer genuine traditional flavours, while an artisan market enriches the festival with local products.
For all ages
The Festa della Zucca is primarily a family event: pumpkin carving workshops, soap bubbles, face painting for children, wooden games, and autumn lantern workshops keep the little ones entertained, along with juggling and stilt-walking performances. There's also the competition for the most beautiful pumpkin and, on the final evening, a grand masked parade with music, prizes for the best costumes, and food stalls. A cheerful and colourful festival, perfect for enjoying the Friulian autumn together.

The colourful Festa della Zucca returns to Pieris di San Canzian d'Isonzo for two days, Monday, October 26th, and Saturday, October 31st, 2026, in Piazza Garibaldi. Organised by Pro Loco San Canzian with the support of the Municipality, it offers food stalls with pumpkin gnocchi, roasted chestnuts, hot sandwiches, Ribolla wine, and desserts, as well as an artisan market.
Plenty of entertainment for children – pumpkin carving workshops, soap bubbles, face painting, wooden games, and lantern workshops – alongside juggling and stilt-walking performances, the competition for the most beautiful pumpkin, and on October 31st, a grand evening masked parade.

The programme
The festival takes place over two days, Monday, October 26th, and Saturday, October 31st, 2026, in Piazza Garibaldi in Pieris. The planned structure includes:
- food stalls with pumpkin gnocchi, roasted chestnuts, hot sandwiches, Ribolla wine, and desserts;
- children's workshops: pumpkin carving, soap bubbles, face painting, wooden games, autumn lanterns;
- juggling and stilt-walking performances, artisan market, and the competition for the most beautiful pumpkin;
- on October 31st, an evening masked parade with music and prizes for the best costumes.

How to get here
Pieris is the main hamlet of San Canzian d'Isonzo, reachable by car from the A4 motorway (Redipuglia or Villesse exit) and served by the Pieris railway station on the Venice-Trieste line. The festival takes place in Piazza Garibaldi, in the town centre.
Admission
Admission to the festival is free; food, drinks, and workshops are available at the Pro Loco stalls.
