The great patronal festival of San Pier d'Isonzo, in honor of Saint Peter the Apostle
The Sagra de San Piero is the major summer event in San Pier d'Isonzo, a town in the Bisiacaria region of the province of Gorizia, which owes its name to its patron saint, Saint Peter the Apostle. Between late June and the first days of July, the parish festival grounds along Via Roma become the vibrant heart of the community for over two weeks of celebrations.
It is a festival with an ancient flavor, where the religious dimension of the patronal festival coexists with the popular and convivial aspect of communal tables, music, and dancing that continue late into the evening.
The kitchen opens every evening at 6:00 PM and, on Sundays, also for lunch from 12:00 PM. Traditional dishes are served: handmade gnocchi with ragù, grilled meats — chicken, pork chops, cevapcici, skewers, and sausage — as well as pork loin and goulash. There is also a beer garden and a wine bar featuring local wines, in true Friulian spirit.
The program is packed with events for all tastes. Among the most anticipated are the Vintage Car and Motorcycle Meeting, with a rally of historic vehicles and an excursion to Palmanova, the evenings of group dancing and ballroom dancing, the charity lottery open daily, and the final Grand Tombola with a substantial prize pool. The grand finale is the fireworks display that lights up the town's sky.
San Pier d'Isonzo is located in the Bisiacaria plain, between the Isonzo River and the Gorizia Karst, in a territory rich in history and culinary traditions. The Sagra de San Piero, organized by the parish community with the support of local organizations, is the best opportunity to discover the authenticity of a Friulian festival that endures and renews itself year after year.
The 2026 edition of the Sagra de San Piero confirms the formula that makes it one of the longest patronal festivals in the Bisiacaria, spread over more than two weeks between late June and the first days of July. The kitchen opens every evening at 6:00 PM and on Sundays also for lunch, with handmade gnocchi with ragù, grilled meats, and traditional Friulian dishes.
The most anticipated events are also confirmed: the vintage car and motorcycle rally with a stop in Palmanova, the evenings of group and ballroom dancing, the daily charity lottery, the final Grand Tombola, and the closing fireworks display.
