The promotional exhibition of Mandorlato from Cologna Veneta, between sweetness and tradition
The Festa del Mandorlato is the event that, every December, celebrates in Cologna Veneta, in the province of Verona, the sweet that has made the town famous worldwide: Mandorlato, a crunchy treat made from honey, sugar, egg whites, and almonds, recognized as a Traditional Agri-food Product (PAT) of the Veneto region. The festival falls on the Immaculate Conception long weekend and is the highlight of Cologna's winter.
From 9 in the morning, the traditional stalls dedicated to mandorlato open, featuring classic versions and new variations created by local artisans. Over 300 exhibitors are involved, including a Christmas market, a food and wine fair, and a street market, while every day there are free tastings of hot mandorlato prepared by the producers.
The program includes outdoor shows and performances at the Teatro Sociale, ancient games, flag-waver performances, and the historical parade in 15th-century costumes, recalling the era when Cologna was an important center in the Veronese territory. The gastronomic area offers traditional specialties, such as Gran Bollito with Pearร and mandorlato-based desserts.
Organized by the Municipality, producers, and the Pro Loco of Cologna Veneta, the Festa del Mandorlato combines agri-food promotion, culture, and tradition, transforming the historic center into a showcase of Cologna's sweetness and identity in the heart of winter in the Bassa Veronese.
